CrossFit... Goes Hollywood? Yep, it's True! Scary...

CrossFit is getting a huge bump into prime time due to the following upcoming blockbuster movies featuring CrossFit protocols either as training methods, or actual plot elements:

"ROCKY BALBOA"

"FRANK MILLER'S THE 300"

I'm not exactly sure what I think about this. While It is great to get more people to do effective workouts, I do like the "undergound" aspect of CrossFit. Paradoxically, I am annoyed with Mark Twight, the "300" trainer, who is doing straight CrossFit, and makes it seem, by omission, that he made it all up on his own.

Here are Mark's "stats"

Deadlift: 365#
Clean & Jerk: 165#
Snatch: 115#
Overhead Squat: 155#
Front Squat: 195#
Pull-Ups: 40
Weighted Pull-Ups: +106#
500m Row: 1:28:2
2000m Row: 7:05
5000m row 18:51

Pretty sweet: I'm hoping to beat these times/scores within the next year (as far as Mr. Twight's Alpine times all I have to say is: whoa.).

Please post your opinions to comments, we are interested to know what you think!

Mark Twight credits crossfit completely on his website, and he also clearly states that he'll rip off any workout or anything else that works. With him being one of the greatest alpinists of all time, it's a great compliment to Crossfit that he's adopted the workout style and molded it into his training regimin along with his other activities. Sure, maybe you'll be able to 'bust his stats' in the future...but keep in mind he's spent his whole life also honing his mind to be able to accomplish many of the ridiculously difficult climbs he pulled off during his climbing career. Pure physical fitness didn't get him there...it was his mind that got him there as well. I don't think he's competitive with other people...I think he's competitive with himself. To strive to be better. If the adoption of the crossfit model makes him better...what a way to show the true benefits of the workout model...hats off to Crossfit.

Can you point to the page where he credits CrossFit? I could not find it for the life of me.

I'm a big Frank Miller fan. So when I heard that 300 was being made into a movie I immediately searched the web looking for news. This lead me to the video clip about Gym Jones' training which lead me to Crossfit. I may have eventually found it on my own, but I'm thankful for the introduction. Who knew being a comic geek would lead to any sort of fitness?

I like the underground aspect as well, but It's my belief that Crossfit will be enormously popular within two years. Hopefully that won't stop anyone from reaping the benefits.

Afterall, they sell Black Flag T-shirts at the mall, but that doesn't stop them from being one of the baddest bands of all time.
