The Insult That Made a Man (or Woman) Out of (Your Name Here)

atlas.jpg

Tired of getting sand kicked in your face at the beach? OK, well, say there was a beach that was not freezing 355 days a year, would you be tired of getting sand kicked in your face at it? Seriously it's time to take six weeks to pack on some serious mass, by which I mean up to 3 pounds. That may not sound enormous, but it will make a big difference: you don't actually have that much muscle. Mostly we are bone, fat, organs, etc. So 3 lbs of contractile muscle is more than you might think.

In that vein we are offering a 7 week pure strength program. Cost will be $35.00 for all 7 weeks, to cover the additional 2 hour Sunday class. We need a minimum of three people and a maximum of six. We ask that if you do do this you commit at the very least to doing all 7 Sunday classes. If at all possible you should come to the Monday and Friday classes as well, which will be offered at 6AM, 7AM and 8AM. Once we have our new facility it may be possible to add an evening session for "make-up" classes.

BTW this is gonna be real interesting for those of us training for the mud run as well! Just so long as you keep the running to 1x week, get plenty of rest, eat like a horse and don't do any additional cardio, it should be fine.

Is it really only costs $35.00 for all of the classes?

Posted by: annie Vought at January 10, 2007 9:10 PM

You have to scroll down a ways to see the schedule, eh?

Posted by: Mike Minium at January 10, 2007 9:14 PM

Love to do it. Can't, though. I'd miss at least half the Sunday's and make none of the weekday classes.

I'm hoping you produce some USDA Grade A Beef.

yeah, I know max is gonna want me to do this, but i don't think i can. the morning thing probably won't work for me. but also, I think i need to work on handling my body weight better, and maybe slimming down a bit. i'd like to be about 200, maybe 205. it seems that anything over 180-190 actually hinders your performance in crossfit. if you're around 180 you probably have enough muscle mass (unless you're like 6'-4" or something) and you're still light enough to excell at bodyweight exercises like pullups, dips, running, etc. i'd love to get people's opinions on this statement.

Max like Jonathan I would love to feel some pain, but I think all the running will get the job done just fine.

Jonathan I think absolute BW is not the best way to look at things, if a guy is a trim (5-10% body fat) 220 + has good metcon, pullups, dips and running (

There is my 2 Cents

I'd love to do it, but would probably have to miss about half of the Sundays. Can I sign up and make those days up in 1 hour privates that I'd pay for?

Max et al.
It sounds like a great class but I think I will have to be lame as well. I have been researching ideal training programs and from my diagnosis I am damn near 100% mesomorph meaning I can put on muscle pretty easily just by taking a walk in the park. Right trainers? As such, it seems that the prescriptions for training that I have found promote working on things that aren’t such “strengths” for me. Instead, I have been trying to make my focus improving my metabolic conditioning while sill improving the functionality of my muscle. This is what I think... please tell me if you think otherwise.

For those who are interested, I found my information on http://bodybuildingpro.com. Here is the quick and dirty on three body types.

The ECTOMORPH
• Definitive "Hard Gainer"
• Delicate Built Body
• Flat Chest
• Fragile
• Lean
• Lightly Muscled
• Small Shouldered
• Takes Longer to Gain Muscle
• Thin

The extreme ectomorph physique is a fragile and delicate one. The bones are light, joints are small and muscles are slight. The limbs are relatively long in proportion and the shoulders droop. The ectomorph is a linear physique. Straight up and straight down, and may appear longer than he or she really is, due to the length of limbs coupled with lack of muscle mass developed on those limbs. The ectomorph is not naturally powerful and will have to work hard for every ounce of muscle and every bit of strength he or she can gain.

The MESOMORPH
• Athletic
• Hard Body
• Hourglass Shaped (Female)
• Rectangular Shaped (Male)
• Mature Muscle Mass
• Muscular Body
• Excellent Posture
• Gains Muscle Easily
• Gains Fat More Easily Than Ectomorphs
• Thick Skin

The Mesomorph Body

The mesomorph has well-defined muscles and large bones. The torso tapers to a relatively narrow and low waist. The bones and muscles of the head are prominent. Features of the face are clearly defined, such as cheek bones and a square, heavy jaw. The face is long and broad, and is cubicle in shape. Arms and legs are developed and even the digits of the hand are muscled.

Endomorph
• Soft Body
• Underdeveloped Muscles
• Round Physique
• Weight Loss is Difficult
• Gains Muscle Easily Like the Mesomorph.

The ENDOMORPH

The body of the extreme endomorph is round and soft. The physique presents the illusion that much of the mass has been concentrated in the abdominal area. This may or may not be true. The arms and legs of the extreme endomorph are short in length and taper. This may give the appearance of stalkiness. The hands and feet of the endomorph are comparatively small, and the upper arms and thighs are often more developed than the lower parts of the arms or legs. The body has a high waist.

Annie: Yes $35.00 for all the sessions. Think of it as an introductory offer. I plan to offer this again and will probably charge more like $100.00

Franklin: I don't think you would benefit from more focus on strength at this point. Perhaps after the mud run.

Leo: you can certainly do it and make it up the missed classes with private sessions.

There are three more slots available. I think it would be great if at least one woman would do it. Annie, you would be a good candidate and would benefit. Candace you are correct in that you are a classic mesomorph. Just look at the weights and you get bigger.

By the way there are combinations as well: meso-endo (a lot of WWF types) meso-ecto (Clint Eastwood)

Dang, the ectomorph description makes us all sound like Marty McFly.

Where's the world-renowned fighting spirit of the Mighty Pencil Necks?

I may have just changed my mind. My students were taking a test 6th period so I decided to read the interview with Mark Rippetoe on the National Site and it made me want to be an Olympic Lifter. He makes it sound so sexy. I love it!

Posted by: Candace Hamilton at January 11, 2007 3:20 PM

ok. sexy isn't the right word. let me retract that last statement. How about powerful, exciting, fresh.

Posted by: Candace Hamilton at January 11, 2007 3:24 PM

I'm now really, really afraid of Candace.

Mike's gotta be excited about tomorrow's w.o.d.

I'd like to officially endorse the V-Max 50 lb. men's narrow weight vest available at www.weightvest.com.

I got the regular sized men's vest for Christmas and it proved to be too wide for full ROM pull-ups. The people at V-Max exchanged it for the new narrow version which will be available some time this year at no extra cost.

The quality is excellent. The nylon straps are durable and the velcro straps seem like they will last a while. Adding or subtracting weight is very simple and can be done in 2 1/2 lb. increments by way of cigarette pack sized weights that fit in external pockets.

Weight can be added to the front and back of the vest allowing for complete balance. I can't wait for the next Murph. Hopefully the weight being even across my body and not focused on the left shoulder (thank you crappy messenger bag) will allow me to come in at a better time.

My plan for the "carry 100lbs. 1 mile anyway anyhow" is to fully load the 50lb vest and carry two 25lb. dumbells. Victory will be mine.

Chad, assuming you are in, there are two more slots left. Any wimminz? Nicole?
