The Heavy Overhead Squat
The overhead squat is the ultimate core exercise, the heart of the snatch, and peerless in developing effective athletic movement.
This functional gem trains for efficient transfer of energy from large to small body parts, the essence of sport movement. For this reason it is an indispensable tool for developing speed and power.
The overhead squat also demands and develops functional flexibility, and similarly develops the squat by amplifying and cruelly punishing faults in squat posture, movement, and stability.
The overhead squat is to midline control, stability, and balance what the clean and snatch are to power, unsurpassed.

Strong work, very inspiring and highly motivational!
Without a doubt, those 4-6 inches coming out of the bottom of the hole are the toughest for me. The slight forward lean I have turns the whole thing into a wobblefest and it ends up being a total yard sale.

Forgot to mention...the weighted OH squat is the best form of squat therapy I've come across.

I actually don't find the OHS tremendously difficult. This is a tribute to CrossFit: the first time I tried it I could not believe how hard it was! Thanks CrossFit!

without a doubt, contending with the fear of dropping down under a weighted object smoothly and with confidence ie. no pauses as squat breaks parallel...

Wow. Impressive.
Max, nice work on the fonts in the video. Looks very smooth.

Another Thoreau quote, from Walden, paraphrased slightly per the editorial comment on cfo.com:
“In the long run, we hit only what we aim at. Therefore, we had better aim at something high.”

Basking in the glory of PR's is short lived around CFO these days...
Franklin just did an OHS of 205...it passed the Minium sniff test (Angela was there too)--video to come!
Does that mean there is a 205.5 from Lucas coming soon?

Ohhh, and Shira A.K.A. "Princess of Power" did a 135# OHS today as well...
Posted by: Nicole Okumu at February 23, 2007 5:39 PM
Not to quibble, but the gold standard for OHS is bodyweight, So I think Wale has Franklin by a bit, or they are even if I have their weights right (195/210). However I'm up to try for the ultimate poundage record too. Gonna have to hit 200# first.

I'm going to try to come in next Wednesday in the early afternoon. Anybody up for another overhead squat attempt?
See you guys soon.

Jim: What time will you be in on Wed, I'd love to see that heavy thruster......

The ultimate in OH Squatting...Dimas lifting at the '04 Olympics in Athens...the snatch and C&J, and he's a push jerker, not a split jerker!
This is where he takes off his shoes, leaving them on the platform to signify his retirement.
