Getting Schooled by Jim Schmitz

Jim Schmitz being bookended by Mike and Nicole
Nicole and I had the privilege to learn from and train with Olympic weightlifting coach Jim Schmitz (Olympic team coach 1980, 1988, and 1992) as part of our USAW certification this weekend.
Coach Schmitz, as one would expect from a coach of his caliber, was outstanding. He coached Nicole and me through the snatch and clean-and-jerk to much success. He also set near-term targets for Nicole of 40kg in the snatch and 60kg in the C&J and 80kg in the snatch and 100kg in the C&J for me. I'll let you all do the math for the conversion to boring old pounds!
We want Coach Schmitz to come in and give a 3-hour Oly lifting clinic to CFO members.
Post to Comments whether you'd like to participate in the clinic and also post whether you'd like to participate as part of the CFO team in an upcoming Oly lifting competition.

I'd love to do the clinic. as for the team, if I feel qualified after a little training, I might try it, but the guys in my weight class are lifting insane amounts of weight, so we'll see. either way, I can't wait to see you guys in action after today.
in other news, ocean beach was fun. Kettlebells in the sand is the way to go. you can try stupid things, like tossing the bell as high as you can with a flip and try to catch it, with little risk. the best I could get with the 1.5 was just higher than my head. I'd say the high point of the day was when Max had to defend Evelyn's honor at lunch.

Sign me up for the clinic. Dunno about participating in a team - I love the idea of competition but I don't think I can make the time committment. Let's see if I can make the 77 kg class first. I am hoping to get there by the end of April.

wow, I didn't want to post this on the main site, but the demo video for tomorrow's wod is terrible. that brendan dude does the worst burpies I've ever seen. i'm surprised he got away with that, let alone being the poster boy for the workout.
