Getting Off the Crack

nicole_sdhp.jpg

Those of you who've been to our FUEL seminar are familiar with the following CrossFit Journal article. We thought it would be a great time to once again showcase the benefits of following the Zone diet and doing CrossFit.

Below is Nicole Carroll's (CFHQ) account of her experience with starting on the Zone diet. It isn't always easy starting something new, and changing your diet is no exception. But it's well worth the effort.

We also think the article below is timely given that Nicole, Max, and I have decided to commit to a strict Zone diet over the next 4 weeks (along with several other CFO athletes--hooray!).

Enjoy!

Everyone should give the Zone diet a try. Simple as that.

And special thanks to Freddy Camacho of CrossFit OneWorld for making this article available on his blog.

Go for it! I found this tool really useful for tracking weight and removing the effects of variations due to water weight & salt intake etc:

SWEET! More fellow crossfitters joining in on the fun! We should plan a cheat day when you all get through your first 28 days and have a decadent feast together....

i'd like to know more about zone and what you guys are doing. can you recommend one of the books as the best place to start?

Joe,

We are strictly following the Zone and our block allotments for a month with the intention of increasing performance (the body composition changes are good too ;). When I say strict, I mean, we are not eyeballing our intake--scales, measuring cups and carefully planned timing of meals...Laura B is staring next week and Andrea is coming on board after a trip to TX. I always loosely follow the zone, but this short exacting period is already making an enormous difference for me!

Hi Nicole,

I'd like to learn more, and what I'm asking is if you have a reference for figuring out how many blocks you should eat, etc.? I'm loosely following it, too, but I'm not eating the right amounts or proportions. I see there are 4 or 5 zone books. Is there one that you recommend?

Joe,

We can provide you with a resource to determine your daily block allotment tomorrow morning.

Mike and Nicole, thanks for the helpful guide to the Zone. Now I understand a little more, and I'm going for it.

Also, while reading up on climate change, and what we can do about it as individuals to reduce our personal CO2 output, I came across the diet below, which is probably no more difficult than strict zone.

The Low-Carbon Diet: A 30 Day Program to Lose 5000 Pounds.
