On Marriage and CrossFit

My brother-in-law and sister after their wedding ceremony today

My sister, Lara, and my brother-in-law, Michael, two of the people I love most in this world, got married today. And I was lucky enough to be there in attendance.

After the ceremony and well before I had my one drink of the evening (sorry, I'm a lightweight), I got to thinking about some of the parallels between success in marriage and success in CrossFit.

First and foremost, both require firm commitment in order for there to be any success. In marriage, it's about a commitment to each other and a commitment to the relationship. In CrossFit, it's about a commitment to one's fitness and well-being.

Both endeavors are not always easy. There will be challenges, many challenges, in fact. It may even hurt from time to time. In the end, though, there's an understanding that entering into marriage, or engaging in CrossFit, will yield a net-positive outcome, and that the individuals involved will be better off for having taken that step (again, whether we're talking marriage or CrossFit).

And finally, there's some discipline required for success. Success won't happen by accident in either endeavor. It takes consistency and effort.

Well, enough babbling from an older brother...

I couldn't be happier for Lara and Michael. Congratulations!

Congrats Michael and Lara! Mike I had no idea you had spent time contemplating marriage! Is there something we need to know?

Mike, I know what you are saying. I've had 2 siblings (out of a possible 10!) get married already and my sister Maria is getting married in September. My last girlfriend (prior to meeting the REAL love of my life, who I believe you have met once or twice) got married last fall, and is getting married again (to the same guy) in yosemite this august. I just got the invitation yesterday. I'm happy for them, too.

Weddings make me all sappy too...It's a good thing.

ps, nice time on the workout yesterday - you almost beat me! ;)

Allen,

Which workout?

Posted by: Mike Minium at July 27, 2007 10:17 AM

Mini-Helen - the rest-day workout for yesterday.
According to the board I beat your time by 1 second.

That wasn't me. The only Helen workout I've done recently is the actual Helen, not a mini version.
