Got Snatch?

Franklin lifting at Carl and Sandra's Physical Conditioning Center (Santa Fe NM)

As many of you know I have been working on developing my Olympic lifting techniques and thus find myself trying to look for snatch and clean and jerks in all the wrong places. What you see in the clip is a snatch of a light barbell to assess my form. Well what do you think: looks good or could use improvement?

Post you thoughts to comments.

Franklin, I am by no means a skilled judge, but based on the video you look real solid to me. You "jump" the bar up and it's path is perfectly vertical. Your shoulders appear to be well extended.

Perhaps you could engage the hips more for a more pronounced scoop. Also, the bar actually travels higher than you need it to--perhaps to conserve max energy you could go lower.

Looked good to me. Agree with Tim that the bar went high but that's the problem with a light load. I find it hard to turn down the intensity of the pull. 75% of 1RM works best for me. How much did you have on the bar there?

Today I finally managed to make -77kg which is the class I'd want to compete in if I ever get round to it. How is Team CFO coming along?

Carlo, Team CFO is still in training! I'll keep you posted, what we need is a future competition to motivate the training any ideas?

Congrats on the -77kg I made the -94kg class two weeks back thanks to the Zone.

Well I was looking to you to come up with something. Maybe we take on some local high school?

No need to ride the bar down like that. Either stick it or get lower. I do understand the argument about going down to work the up movement, but assuming we are looking for efficiency, that ain't it. Plus you need a singlet with your balls hanging out.

I'm less than 2 kg away from the 77KG class.

Franklin:

Extend and scoop. You'd be surprised how much more power you can generate.

Angela, do you mean extend and scoop "more"? Seems like he does it already.

Can I get some roadside assistance with my extend and scoop?

Posted by: Tim at September 7, 2007 1:06 PM

Tim, only if your wearing a singlet.

Nicole,

Not everyone has to wear a singlet! We can't all sport Bakersfield haute couture!

Tim,

Just call me "AAA." Actually, I think Jim Schmitz gave me a good article a couple years ago regarding "The Scoop." I think it was from an article he published in Milo. You might ask him if he can dig up a copy of it and bring it to the seminar.
