Welcome to CFO!

sierra%3Ajourney.jpg

Journey and Sierra, delivered to CFO via the yummy Pizzaiolo in Temescal (where they both work) under the influence of Mrs. Annie Vought-Vermiere (dedicated CF proselytizer and Pizzaiolo patron), are now well on their way to becoming fire-breathing-kipping pull-up -having-eye-of the-tiger CF ATHLETES! We expect great things from these two, and are happy to have them training at CFO.

What advice would you give to a new CF athlete to help them have a long and happy CF career? Post your sage-words to comments.

Just remember, CrossFit is a lifelong journey.

Oh my god, I'm so funny! I kill myself!

Seriously, though, you two have the right attitude. You're making steady, incremental gains and not overreaching. That's the way to do it.

Also, don't forget about the importance of solid food intake in fueling sustainability (within a workout as well as from workout to workout over the long haul).

My advice...don't take my advice!

Mike,

the rumor on the street is that you are going to be doing "Badger" today? I would be willing to let you be my "rabbit" for this, if it is true.

Remember, there is a window of time immediatly following a CF workout to indulge that cheat meal as, your body will store the carbs as glycogen in your muscles instead of fat.

In other words, make a pit stop at Bittersweet after your workout, guiltfree.

Daniel,

Yeah, I'll be there getting my Badger on with Audra and Maudi, if you think you can hang.

Since the 800m run is the last thing to come up in the interval, what I can do is let you get out ahead of me, and then you can just drop off like you normally do in runs. You don't need to even do anything special--just a normal run for you. Perfect little rabbit.

I'll be there at 5pm, by the way.

Maybe I'll starve myself the rest of the day and deprive myself of sleep so that you'll have a fightin' chance.

"I had realized, therefore, that there is and can be no other way to mysticism than the way of personal experience and suffering, and that, if this premise is lacking, all talk about it is so much empty chatter."

- Eugen Herrigel from Zen in the Art of Archery

I rather like that quote and think it has great relevance to all endeavors, including CrossFit. I think the emphasis on suffering is very appropriate for those embarking upon serious training.

Mike,
The way I see it, you won't need to let me get in front of you...that sort of thing will take care of itself.
I also reccomend that you eat as much as you can now, because I'll be taking your lunch money at 5.

my money is on Minium for highly anticipated BATTLE OF THE PEACOCKS--y'all should go ahead an pee on the tree that marks 400m while your at it!

> y'all should go ahead an pee on the tree that marks 400m while your at it!

That is an excellent idea. Infact, I have a related story.

When I was walking to CrossFit from McArthur one evening in the early fall, I passed a fellow on the sidewalk beneath the bridge that goes over 40th Street. He was messing around with his pants as he was walking toward me. As I got to within about 8 feet, a stream of urine emanated from said gentleman as he continued to walk. I would recommend a similar technique be employed should marking the tree become part of the workout.

you really need to believe in yourself Journey and Sierra!
* Music cuts in....

Just a small town girl, livin in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in south detroit
He took the midnight train goin anywhere

(chorus)

Dont stop believin
Hold on to the feelin
Streetlight people

Dont stop believin
Hold on to the feelin
Streetlight people

Let's start the New Year with more game to back up all the s**t talking :) Formal challenges might be fun, especially with workouts like "Fran". It was fun to watch Mike and Daniel during its competitive moments! Marisa... I accept your 400m run challenge, I could use another spot on the board ;)

I would like to apologize to everyone for my last hypocritical posting. I ask for people to step their game up then I go and challenge a thirteen year old to a run. We all know she doesn't have a chance in hell of winning. Sorry Mari, you have a few more years before you get to the big leagues!

Posted by: Tamara at December 22, 2007 8:29 PM

wow tammy ,trying to act all mature and grown up.
we all know your immature. Just be ready when i kick your butt, and be ready for the weeks of me making fun of you and your slow, big mac eating butt.

Journey and Sierra:

Welcome!! It is always nice to have new folks...especially people who are approximately the same height so we can work out from the same bar! (Otherwise I get lonely...)

BTW: I only worked for a waitress for one day and was FIRED for breaking SO MANY PLATES and nearly burning a small infant with a bowl of soup--you guys must have great balance!!!!!!
