What is CrossFit Redux?

The Pitch
OK, we tried this once a while back, but now we're asking for your help again.
Help us define CrossFit. If you had to describe it in a short paragraph, what would you say? How would you explain it to your friends? To your parents? Run the gamut.
So here's your opportunity: Give us your CrossFit elevator speech and if we like it, you'll get a month of training free.
Post your CrossFit blurb to comments.
A Great Cause
Oakland Firefighters Random Acts provides resources for Oakland Firefighters to create a random act of kindness when they encounter people in need on their emergency calls in the community.
On Saturday, April 12, OFD will be holding their 7th Annual Awards and Dinner Dance at 7pm at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Oakland.
Tickets are $75/person (cocktails at 5:30pm, dinner at 7pm).
We've already bought all the spots for one table, and now we just need four more spots for our second table. Help support OFD and this great cause.

I don't have any catchy one-liners, but I've been working on a flier to advertise the Pixar intro class and this is the text I might propose (portions lifted pretty much verbatim from your home page and from the "Understanding Crossfit" CF Journal article):
CrossFit is a comprehensive health-and-fitness program designed for universal scalability; so long as you're committed, you can get started regardless of experience level. Rather than change programs, we scale our loads and intensity to meet the demands of everyone from the elderly to first responders and world-class athletes, working with you to define your individual fitness goals.
Our unique, coached group workouts harness the natural camaraderie, competition and fun of sport and game, inspiring unparalleled intensity and providing concrete evidence of your progress and improvement. Every class includes instruction in a complement of safe, functional, multi-joint movements which are prescribed in constantly varied combinations to create remarkably effective and efficient workouts.
CrossFit is broad, general, inclusive fitness. Whether you are preparing to meet the challenges of work, athletic competition or daily life, CrossFit works.

I would like to yesterdays post in regards to advice for new comers:
1: Trust the program, it works every time.
2: See the big picture. Make the workouts a life style change. Think of your body as a plant and the program as water. You want to water it a little bit each day for it to grow strong. Dump a whole bunch all at once and plant weakens. Think long term.
3: Nutrition is the foundation of this program. Regardless of your efforts in the gym if you don't have a solid foundation the house will fall.
If you are ever having doubts at anytime, this is a very supportive community, reach out to someone and you may be surprised how much support you receive.

When you are ready to join a community instead of a gym... When you are ready to finally make measurable progress... When you are ready to get stronger, faster, leaner, and tougher... When you are ready to stop wasting your time... You are ready for CrossFit Oakland.
I'll see what else I can come up with as the day goes along. The free month is good, but I'm hoping for the previously promised hug from Mike. :)

Tom,
I was thinking more along the lines of something like "It's better than sugar."
I'm talking about the CF blurb, not the hug from me, in case you were wondering.

> "It's better than sugar."
That would be impossible because nothing is better than sugar, except for vanilla ice cream (sorry, Lau). However, since ice cream contains sugar, perhaps they are on an equal footing.
I have some other potential lines for you, although these aren't very serious. Surprise, surprise. They don't all conform to the CrossFit elevator speech either.
Before coming to CrossFit Oakland, I thought "snatch" was a dirty word. I had no idea how right I was.
Here's one to complement the hug motif:
CrossFit Oakland is like a group hug, only it's sweaty, involves weights, will encourage you to vomit, and makes you really sore. Aside from those things, it's still a lot like a group hug.
CrossFit Oakland - not all cults are bad.

Oh, I have another one!
Is gravity getting stronger, or are you getting weaker?
While many talk about functional exercise, CrossFit delivers. Does your workout include pullups, sprints, weightlifting, and gymnastics in a supportive environment? Are you stronger than you were last month? Do you believe you can do these things and more? If not, it's time to step up to a real workout. CrossFit Oakland - More than just a gym.

One of the things that makes CrossFit so different than a globogym is that every single day's workout is different. That's gotta be part of the description, because it really distinguishes CF from most workout routines.
So, work that in there, clever folks...still too sick to be clever myself at present.

CrossFit Oakland: It's time to quit f*cking around

At Globogym we're better than you, and we know it! Here at Globogym, we understand that "ugliness" and "fatness" are genetic disorders; much like baldness, or necrophilia. And it's only your fault if you don't hate yourself enough to do something about it. And that's where we come in! Of course you'll still be you in a legal sense. But think of it as a thinner, more attractive, better you than you could ever become without us.
But seriously, I'm reading Rip's Starting Strength, and the intro has a great description about how the human body requires a certain stimulus in order to fulfill the function it was meant for; namely exercise. There are some great quotes, like:
A weak man is not as happy as that same man would be if he were strong.
the reality of millions of years of adaptation to a ruggedly physical existence will not just go away because desks were invented.
I think these ideas should be included in whatever blurb you decide to use. if my brain weren't fried from sitting at my desk all week I might be able to come up with something. but hey, it's friday.

Crossfit workouts epitomize BALANCE. Crossfit is high-intensity, shorter duration, skillful exercise teaching power, strength, coordination, precision and endurance. It is efficient exercise that motivates participants by its spontaneity and attention to detail all at once. Crossfitters simultaneously compete against the clock and one another while always encouraging and supporting each performer. The chance to do or learn a new movement skill or pattern, play like a kid on the bars, rings or rope, or just run as fast as one can makes exercise fun again, its playful! The participants mind is never bored and seldom plateaus as in other workouts. Crossfit, simply put, “ROCKS!”
