CFO Athlete Vanessa K: Featured in Sunset Magazine!
***IMPROMPTU CFO GATHERING***
CFOers: A bunch of us will be meeting at T-Rex Barbecue on 1300 Tenth Street in Berkeley (Tenth & Gilman, basically) at 8pm tonight.
This will be an informal celebration of the end of the throwdown and rumor has it that Daniel and Tamara will be buying rounds for everyone.
Everyone is welcome, whether you were part of the throwdown or not (or even if you have no idea what the throwdown is).
Come one, come all!

Check it out! Our fellow Crossfitter, Vanessa, of Vee's Horticulture is featured in the April issue of Sunset Magazine!

Nice article Vee! There's hope for my yard yet!

Beautiful work indeed! Very nice article.

Congratulations, Vee! You look beautiful and so does your garden...

I remember when you were talking about this shoot, Vee.
Nice to see the final version in Sunset now. Congratulations!

Have we confirmed where the drinking throwdown will take place tonight?
Posted by: Brandon B. at April 4, 2008 7:42 AM
Congrats Vee! That's very impressive...all that I can grow is the weeds that pop up in between my rock "lawn".
Brandon,
Nothing is finalized. I'm down with something in the Eastbay. I don't know where anything is, so post some options and we can vote.

Awesome job Vanessa! I'm going to brag to my mother (a Sunset mag addict) that I know you! Of course, I will not mention that you kick my ass at every workout that I've done with you...Next bottle of champagne is on me. Cheers!

Daniel, Brandon, et al.,
It's gonna happen at T-Rex Barbecue (Gilman & 10th in Berkeley).
I'm thinking we set a time of 8pm. It'll probably be crowded on a Friday night so perhaps we can get one or two kind souls to get over there early.
I'll post details up above in today's entry.
Posted by: Mike Minium at April 4, 2008 8:27 AM
I posted the details for tonight's post-throwdown gathering at the top of today's post.
Posted by: Mike Minium at April 4, 2008 8:36 AM
Brandon,
Nevermind my idea of voting...Mike is a dictator!
Posted by: daniel at April 4, 2008 8:39 AM
Yeah but the trains run on time at CFO! Looking forward to seeing you all at T Rex tonight.
Posted by: Michael A. at April 4, 2008 8:58 AM
11 posts before 9am...the magic of alcohol.
Posted by: Brandon at April 4, 2008 9:05 AM
Watch out, Daniel. I'm one step away from donning military regalia and forming my own party.
Posted by: Mike Minium at April 4, 2008 9:11 AM
"...His body was taken to Milan where it was hung upside down at a petrol station for public viewing and confirmation of his demise"
Yeah Mike, I think that is a good idea.
Posted by: daniel at April 4, 2008 9:27 AM
I doubt Riblets and Devilled Eggs count as balanced zone food, but it's one of my all-time favorite meals. Too bad I'll be sitting in traffic on my way to the mountains. Congratulations to all the Throwdown survivors!
Posted by: Bill at April 4, 2008 9:43 AM
That's how I felt after the throwdown was done with.
Posted by: Mike Minium at April 4, 2008 11:03 AM
I don't get Sunset, but by chance they sent me a copy as a promotion. I was flipping through it and the photo caught my eye. I knew nothing of the article (and in fact, didn't know you were a horticulturist), so it actually took me some careful examination to confirm that it was actually "our" Vanessa -- make up, fancy hairdo...you clean up nice! Not to say you don't look fab in your workout gear, but in a different way. :-)
Congratulations on the excellent publicity!

HOSTAGE SITUATION!!!!!
I have Tamara Holmes's CrossFit record keeping book. That's right, the CFO Throwdowns woman champions CFO book.
HOLDING FOR RANSOM!!!!!
Ransom details later.
Tamara - if you want it back, acknowledge, and I'll provide the ransom details.
Do NOT go to the authorities. If you do, the book will be shredded.

I wish someone would steal my record book. They would then realize they just stole an empty journal with my name on the side.
Posted by: steven at April 4, 2008 12:47 PM
Vee -
Very pretty in the pic.
Posted by: The Silent One at April 4, 2008 12:47 PM
I worked out today for the first time since Fran. My body has felt like I just spent 4 days locked in a small motel rooom on the outskirts of Las Vegas with no air conditioning, Greg Amundsen, his extendable asp, Tony Blauer, Jeff Matrone, a 2 pood kettlebell, and enough crystal meth to wipe out a truck-stop in Bakersfield.
Either way I'm looking forward to T-Rex Barbeque. If anyone is interested I'll be bringing some antibiotics and hormones to inject into any of the meat that looks especially organic.

I would like to change tonight's venue to the PF Chang's in Walnut Creek, A.K.A. The Cougar Den.
Raaawr!
I expect everyone to party tonight like you're Morris Day on hella yay, dressin gay.
Posted by: jp at April 4, 2008 1:38 PM
Damn, can't make it. I was really looking forward to getting Mike drunk. Hopefully there'll be another one soon.
Posted by: Brad Greenlee at April 4, 2008 1:40 PM
"The Cougar Den?!" That is pure, unadulterated genius.

Yes - this is a drag having to get rid of a car I've had for 5 weeks.

To whomever has my book:
I'm going to a concert tonight, might be finished in time to stop by and say hi. As far as the book is concerned...keep it, those pages are wet and wrinkled because I dropped it in the toilet!
Posted by: Tamara at April 4, 2008 3:02 PM
Don't worry JP. There will plenty of cougar hunting at the T-Rex bar.

dammit -
Tamara is not lying. I stole the wrong book. Those pages are nasty and all wrinkled.
T - you better guard that current book.

JP-
Nice video. Alf and cocaine, two of my favorite things about the 80's. I still enjoy my fix of both, but these days its tougher to find some Alf episodes than to pick up a few grams of Colombian Gold.
Brad Gilliatt-
You mean after 3 years of paying over $500 per month I will have to return the car and the only thing I'll have is the satisfaction from the 3 years of pulling up to a stop light next to a guy in a Toyota Rav 4 and knowing that I'm better than him and his girlfriend probably wants to have sex with me?
Sounds like a pretty good deal.
Posted by: Nabil at April 4, 2008 3:56 PM
I have a black on black customized 1982 Trans Am available for $2500. If anyone is interested, please let me know.

Posted by: Brandon at April 4, 2008 4:07 PM
Nabil - of course the guy might want to have sex with you as well.
Maybe I should try craigslist.
Posted by: brad gilliatt at April 4, 2008 4:25 PM
I have a black on black 2004 Honda Element that is getting me about as far in the ladies department as that guy in the RAV4.
It has 64 interior seating configurations. I've only used 3 of them but I'm sure the other 61 are just as awesome if not awesomer.
Posted by: jp at April 4, 2008 4:27 PM
Vee your work is AMAZING! Congratulations on the article!
Posted by: cave connie at April 4, 2008 6:35 PM
if anyone is interested in Alf and cocaine, rent "Permanent Midnight."
Did "gwen" at home with my 28kg kettlebell. had to do one arm at a time. man that's a grip workout. not sure if I'll make it out tonight. i'll try.
congrat's V!

Jonathan, I'll bring in a couple more sandbags this weekend.
Posted by: Alec at April 4, 2008 10:37 PM
Alec,
I don't know how many you have, but if you could bring 5 in for me as well, that would be great.
Posted by: Mike Minium at April 5, 2008 8:00 AM
For those of you viewing the online version; it wasn't just a nice article, it was the COVER!
