CFO Field Trip

CFO_CFNSC.jpg

The CFO crew after their workout this morning at CrossFit North Santa Cruz

Today we took the first of what will likely be several trips to nearby CF affiliate gyms over the next couple of months.

We had a great time and got to be coached by Jason Highbarger, who's one of the old-school CF trainers and goes way back with the Glassmans, well before CrossFit became an internet phenomenon.

He gave us a great lesson on scaling up a workout. We took the Fran format, increased the weight, replaced pull-ups with some rope climbs, broke the reps down into smaller sets, and added some 80-meter sprints. This workout was all about peak power production.

As a side note, the workout wasn't timed, which isn't quite as nice as you might think. This ensured that each of our sprints were all-out efforts.

I'll be offering this workout up for rest day fodder tomorrow. Let's see if we get any takers!

Tamara -

If you want your slightly soiled book back you'll meet the ransom demands.

I want the blue head-band and wrist-band you wore during Fran.

If you agree, I'll forward info on the drop/exchange.

PUB QUIZ TONIGHT

LB and I bumped into each other last week at Trivia Night in Noe Valley. We talked about seeing if we could get a few CFO-ers to make the journey into SF and get your brain workout on.

Valley Tavern
4054 24th St., btw Castro & Noe.
Monday nights at 8pm

I have a wicked-smaht team headed up by one Dr. Jakeles who knows all. LB's crew and my crew joined forces last week and we crushed it.

At Pub Quiz, I continue a long-standing personal tradition of coming in second place.

Laura - I agree with you on the eye candy. I've been friends with Brandon and Connor for a while now, but I joined CFO just so I could watch them workout!

As for challenging Ice Chamber I'm a little disappointed in the overall lack of enthusiasim for a head to head gym battle.

CFO'ers never retreat! CFO'ers never surrender! Go spread the word. Let every athlete assembled know the truth of this. Let each among them search his own soul. And while you're at it, search your own.

Your lips can finish what your fingers have started... or has the CFO Throwdown robbed you of your desire as well?

Nabil,

Like the idea but think better opponents would be Diablo or One World.

Was this the naked workout? What's up?

Posted by: angela at April 7, 2008 10:33 AM

Angela:

It was a naked workout--which is amazing since the WOD involved rope climbs! I hear the finisher was amazing. I am sure we will able to u tube it later...it involved a variation on the HSPU.

All in all this is the most homoerotic CFO post ever...Which is, of course, very exciting. I can't decide what is better, the picture of Patrick and Mike in matchy matchy shorts or Nabil's *very explicit* reference to a three-way with Brandon and Conner.

JP: not sure on trivia--gotta work--will try to make it!

Seriously Nabil, we will be down for any challenge. You name it! And we always use our mouths to finish what our hands have started! It is the CFO way!

I was fully clothed. I was also repeatedly mistaken for a black man due to my deep ebony skin tones. I think I would have to be a light bulb in order to appear any brighter in photographs.

Many thanks to Mike for driving us all down to Santa Cruz.

Nabil,

I'm kinda surprised to see you calling CFO out like this. Everyone knows we are all ready and willing to crush any crossfit-wannabe losers.

Here is the crossfit intimidation site that I created this morning to strike fear into the hearts of ...other people not in CFO.

Coincidentally, it would also be a great site to pullup before one of your aforementioned threeways w/ Brandon and Connor.

Nabil,

To keep the training mode on high we are going to challenge ALL of the local CF Affiliates to a Throwdown here on Sat, May 24th. Details on the what and how later but you can count on a hopper and a post post-party...we'll let everyone know who's joining us from around the bay

Posted by: Nicole Okumu at April 7, 2008 2:38 PM

1. Regional throwdown - obviously count me in.

2. I'd like to withdraw my name for condideration w/ respect to all the man on man on man scenarios that have recently been discussed.

3. JP's crossfit intimidation site is good, maybe too good.

Nice...

Apparently there is a serious lack in the CFO training regimen, an element that even intermediate bodybuilders recognize as having the utmost importance. This 11th element of fitness has been completely ignored in the mainstream crossfit literature and regimen, and is once again rearing it's ugly head. This deficiency must be corrected!

While I may be bringing it up, I am just as deficient in this category as any of the three shirtless wonders in that picture.

What is this mysterious and elusive 11th element of fitness, you might ask?

TANNING!

I vote for rest day tanning salon sessions for all us pale-ass white guys. Maybe we could install one upstairs?

Posted by: Allen at April 7, 2008 6:19 PM

At least I got a sick farmers tan going on...too bad you can't see the back of my neck, but check out those forearms...SEXY TIME!!!

Scaling Fran UP??? Holy neuro-endocrine response, Batman!

JP, I raise you this. (have I posted this before?)

Damn, I have to work on the 24th. How about the 25th instead.

Posted by: Lau at April 7, 2008 6:56 PM

Lau,

It's actually Saturday, April 26. So you should be fine.

Posted by: Mike Minium at April 7, 2008 7:16 PM

I'm confused, is it May 24th or April 26th?

Allen- I am totally down for a CFO tanning session! Not everyone can be blessed with gorgeous skin.

Joe came in at 6am this morning in his street clothes for the sole purpose of helping me out as I made up Saturday's CFT. He chose my weights, loaded my bar, critiqued my form and cheered me on...I felt just like a princess in a CrossFit fairy tale. Thanks Joe!

If I were any darker, I would be a black hole. I would actually consume and destroy light.

Posted by: TomC at April 7, 2008 8:48 PM

Sorry, my bad.

It is May 24.

Posted by: Mike Minium at April 7, 2008 8:59 PM

I love the 6am class! Joe you are a real friend, I flake on Ek everytime ;)
