Random Feats of Strength
I'm sure our resident YouTube-link-posting crew will have a field day with this video, but be that as it may, there are some epic feats of strength displayed by these guys, if you can get past the gold speedos and body paint.
And with that in mind, post to comments the one bodyweight feat you have yet to accomplish that you'd like to get by end of 2008.

I want to look good enough to work out in a gold speedo and body paint.
Failing that, I'll settle for pull-up(s).

Nice work Robyn! And you did it all by your lonesome at 7am! Props to Edgar for a great effort at the 6am workout, not far behind Brandon's great time.
My bodyweight goal is a BW bench press but since I just hit 100# last week (and thus would need to add 35# to hit BW, ha!), it's really more of a lifetime goal than a 2008 goal. But on the other hand, I said 100# was my lifetime goal a month or so ago, when bench pressing 75#, so who knows what miracles CrossFit may bring.
Oh yeah...as discussed with some at the throwdown bash, I think we need at least one T shirt slogan that stands up for the "we're not all right-wing whackos" aspect of CFO (as opposed to crossfit.com), such as
CrossFit: It's not just for neocons anymore
(I also thought "Use as Rxd" was great, Joe.)

I'd like to get a controlled handstand, and eventually be able to do free-standing handstand pushups. That would be awesome. on the parallettes would be even better.

That was impressive and a little awkward to watch :)

Those are two serious athletes in need of a better choreographer. Whoever came up with the booty-sniffing portion of the routine should rethink that section.

I really need to work on my moonwalking skills.

Thanks, Sherrill. It was totally the 1:1 coaching from Dawn that did it. I need attention ;) But I have to say I am surprised - did all the ladies ditch the evening classes!?
Do L-sits count as BW exercise? After seeing Sierra doing those the other day, they are my new obsession. Don't worry Mike, I will still work on my kipping pull-ups.

Sorry to say, I couldn't watch the entire video, as Tamara put it, it was awkward to watch. One question did go through my mind though - Do you think they stuffed their bikinis? I thought people who took lots of 'roids had little weenies and those guys were Huge bulging monsters. Was I the only one who noticed? Anywho, happy breakfasting.
My strength goal is a 1.5x bodyweight deadlift.

Man, I had trouble watching the whole video too. But I managed to get through it 26 times.
I'll be putting on a clinic for the man-man double-crotch static hold this sunday if anyone is interested. Sorry ladies, men only. We'll be shooting for a 45 minute hold. Bring your own speedo.
I'd like to to a handstand plus free-standing handstand pushup as well.

Wait, I forgot what I was going to say. Totally distracted. What?

i almost had to stop the vid when they did the mirrored splits thing... i was sure man-basket contact was imminent.
as for bodyweight, my short term goal is a decent kipping p/u and a few solid ring dips... i suppose a muscle-up by the end of 2008 is too much to ask for.

I really don't think those guys are roid-ing. they'd have bigger veins popping out of their arms/temples. Did you notice that guy squeezing the shit out of the other guys head when he did the one handed handstand? Also, did anyone else realize he did a thruster with that guy's bodyweight, but from the bottom position? That's so much harder than taking the same weight down and then going back up (read Rip's book). those guys are insanely strong. If I could do all of that stuff, I'd wear a gold speedo, too. Cause nobody would say anything or I'd just pick them up and throw them across the room, Hulk-style.

gold grape-smugglers. is that really necessary?
for all you foodie-type people, check out the radio piece at the link below. it's a great story about louisiana food culture, and the power of food in general. (caution: NPR = liberal content).

two great workouts so far in this triplet. what will tomorrow bring?
finally, i'd like to amend my t-shirt slogan suggestion to "Caution. Use only as Rx'd."

just watched it again.
It's even better on a 40" flat screen in HD.
JP - what time?
Posted by: brad gilliatt at April 17, 2008 2:01 PM
6am on Sunday. Don't shower or brush your teeth before the clinic. Studies show it makes you weak.

Since Jonathan opened up the door for discussion of technique-related topics in that video, I wanted to point out that the guy doing the support work (the guy on the bottom) is a picture-perfect example of keeping active shoulders with the load centered over the scapula.
This is right out of the CF/Rippetoe playbook and is a wonderful lesson to learn and apply to your own game, whether trying to do a handstand, a shoulder press, or any kind of upper-body pushing movement.
Also, although I can only speculate because they only give us a from-the-front camera angle, when the guy squats down with the other guy on top of him, he's carrying him right over...the scapula (what a surprise!). Again, straight out of the Rippetoe playbook.
In fact, if you look at the various angles formed by leg, hip, torso, and shoulder throughout the video, you'll get a great lesson in leverage and productive application of force (to borrow Coach G's words).
And finally, I can't tell you how happy I am that TomC has discovered the blockquote html tag. Nothing pleases me more than opening up the comments and reading something in a giant, red rectangle. And even more so if the words vanilla ice cream or sugar are contained therein.

Wow. Daniel and Nabil look really impressive in gold paint.

I'd like to work on free-standing handstands too. I'd like a seminar on it somewhere with gymnastics mats. In the handstand videos on the CF site they drill forward rolls first, so that you can roll out of the handstand if you overshoot.
I'd also really like to get L pullups.

Yeah, I was pretty psyched about it, too. Unfortunately, it doesn't let me embed pictures, or change text size using style tags, so I just have settle for what we've got. Thankfully, my posts are so important, well composed, and not-at-all repetitive that normal sized text is sufficient all by itself.
Ice cream makes us strong.
