Strong Work, Candace & Daniel!

Can_Dan.jpg

CFO's Power Couple Du Jour

Congratulations to Candace and Daniel on their stellar performances in today's deadlift/handstand push-up workout.

Although Candy and Danny took top honors, there were a number of breakthroughs from many (e.g., Brian C and Audge got their first handstand push-ups from the floor).

Candace and Daniel will be heading back to New York City this Saturday for Candace's college reunion. While they're back there, they plan on making at least one visit to the CrossFit NYC Black Box (who knows, maybe they'll run into fellow Oakland CrossFitter Melissa at the Black Box, since she's already back in NYC as well).

Post props to Daniel and Candace for their consistently solid workout performances and wish them well on their trip to NYC!

Is Daniel standing on a 24" plyo box?

Posted by: Brandon B. at May 22, 2008 10:01 PM

Wow, nice job both of you. 486,765?! What was the breakdown of that? I'm guessing that works out to about 50 HSPUs per round? Damn.

Candace are those strings hanging from your shoulders?

Posted by: Lau at May 22, 2008 10:29 PM

Ah, you must be counting each DL rep separately...

Posted by: Brad Greenlee at May 22, 2008 10:35 PM

awww, nice pic.

Candy and Danny, if you get a chance, do one of my favorite things in NYC. One late afternoon go to the roof top garden at the Met and have a cocktail. Nothing like looking out over CP at twilight....I miss it.

Posted by: brad gilliatt at May 22, 2008 10:40 PM

Yep, each rep of deadlifts.

The breakouts for both were as follows:

Candace: 215/6 215/5 215/6 215/5 215/3

Daniel: 365/24 365/20 375/17 380/14 380/12

All I can do is laugh at the fact that daniel went up in weight on his DLs....and ended up doing over 100lbs more than me. crazy strong work you two..

Posted by: P. at May 22, 2008 11:37 PM

Hey, Candance and Daniel
I am also going to NY this Saturday, maybe I will see you at black box as i definitely plan on going at least once. If you are going to go and know when let me know. see you in NY maybe?

Posted by: Journey at May 23, 2008 12:04 AM

Match made in heaven ;) Awesome work you guys, have fun in NYC!

Posted by: Nicole Okumu at May 23, 2008 7:27 AM

I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking. And I plan on finding out what that is in NY.

...and it was only a 22" plyo box...thank you very much!

Posted by: daniel at May 23, 2008 7:56 AM

you guys are awesome, I wish you could make it to the throwdown. We're in LA right now, went to Petranek Fitness, this was his WOD -
warm up-5,4,3,2,1,2,3,4,5 reps dead hang pullups, each with 5 pushups in between.
WOD-1 mile run for time, rest until the last person comes in the door, then in succession 2 min of each of the following, recording your reps but no rest time -
med ball cleans
double unders
pullups
db thrusters
row for calories
Lance had the top score, what a beast. Petranek led the class, he's really nice and knows his shit, definitely has his own was of doing things. Today it's 3 rounds of 800 M run for time. Too bad, it's my day off! We miss CFO and can't wait to get back tomorrow.

Thank you, Thank you. Mike must be really hurting for material when he makes "shout outs" to me:)

Brad Gi, we will definitely check out the Met! Any other suggestions of things to do in NYC are much appreciated.

Finally, after coaching yesterday, I too want to congratulate the amazing performance of Audra, Brad Gi, Matt, Brian C., Laura, and probably more peoeple. All of you went from 3 pads to 2, 2 to 1 or 1 to the floor and showed amazing heart. IMPRESSIVE WORK, FRIENDS!

Lance! Way to represent! Very impressive.

Candace -

Other than all of the great bars, museums, shopping, restaurants, my favorite thing to do in the summer was to hang out at Sheep's Meadow in Central Park. I was sooooo broke when I lived in the city. Most of the people I knew would go to the Hamptons or Jersey shore, I'd be left in the city.

I'd chill at Sheep's Meadow, go to the free concert behind the bandshell, near the Bethesda Memorial. (I once played soccer there, I was on a Nigerien team against a bunch of Columbians with Brits and Danes waiting to play. I loved it)

If you and Daniel are really motivated, you could rent a row boat there (for time) :)

In the evening I'd head down to Soho maybe catch a new release movie/indie at the Angelika Theater, and then drink cocktails on the sidewalk at Felix or Lucky Strike at the corner of West Broadway and Grand. I did my best to pick up the French models that hung out at those two places.

And yes, I failed miserably.

I loved NYC!

Nice job Lance! Yours and Sierra's hard work is really paying off. You guys are kicking ass and looking great! Keep it up!

Sierra, I've been to Petranek fitness. They're warmups are crazy. Super friendly bunch. BUT, their membership contracts are insane. The more you want to train per month, the longer you have to commit to. For instance, if you want to go unlimited per month, you have to sign a 2 year commitment, and it's $300 per month. Once a week for 4 months is their lowest membership, and it's $100/month. Insane, right? So much for "elite fitness for EVERY body." more like just elite fitness.

Too bad you'll be out of town this weekend. You're going to miss a good time.

Boy, I'm glad I followed that link while I was at work.

After watching today's video on the main site, I would like to see a little more slapping and punching of the small of the back. I think a little bit of that will go a long way towards the development of our CFO athletes.

Posted by: jp at May 23, 2008 1:39 PM

Daniel said he hates the happy blog posts...so I am impressed that you guys got him to agree to this.

For my part, I will say that it is inspiring to see two people who consistently work to push themselves hard at every work out. And you guys will be missed next week!

I am also very impressed at all of you brave souls who go to other gyms while on vacation...do you just show up...or do you call in advance? DO you shart shit talking about how much better CFO is right away or do you hold off? A girl who is going to be traveling a bit this summer wants to know--especially--the shit talking part.

And now that I rambled on--is there a 4:00PM class tomorrow? And what was decided about UFC? Are us girls invited? Or is this another one of these all boy events (or boy on boy events) that you keep linking us to...

Posted by: LB at May 23, 2008 2:55 PM

I agree with JP on the low back slapping. That being said, I'm totally down for a UFC viewing party if we can incorporate some of this low back slapping in between rounds etc. Laura if you come just beware that you too will recieve a necessary and/or unnecessary amount of the aforementioned low back slaps.

Candace,

I will call you but I am also going to post some of my NYC highlights, most have to do with food and cocktails, surprise surprise:

Food:
Spotted Pig (meat packing district)
Momofuku (amazing korean noodle bar north of alphabet city)
Doughnut Plant (china town) incredible organic, seasonal doughnuts, fresh lychee juice squeezed on the spot
Lupa (east village)
Il Buco (soho i think)
Diner (williamsburg, brooklyn) near crossfit
Marlow and Sons (also near black box in brooklyn)
Blue Ribbon (if you feel like sucking on some bone marrow at 4am)

Museums (i am sure you know of the good ones already)

Bars/music
Pegu Club (bar)
Death and Company (bar, speakeasy style)
P.D.T (speakeasy, you enter through a telephone booth that is in a hotdog stand)
Angel Share
Little Branch (great cuban music on the weekends)
Employees Only
Milk and Honey
Smalls (great great Jazz venue on the east side)

these above are just a few of the many, maybe i will see you at black box.
