What About Recovery?

Hamming it up after the Throwdown!
Here's an interesting CFJ article entitled "What About Recovery?" by Coach Glassman. Worth a read:http://www.crossfit.com/journal/library/29_05_What_About_Recovery.pdf
Post your opinions of the article to comments.

I'm tempted to say something about ice cream and recovery, but I'm afraid Lau will hurt me. I have, however, found a good way to make my legs hurt really badly so that I require a great deal of recovery:
4 rounds of
21 jumping squats
21 front squats at 95 pounds
blah, blah, blah...
Despite my best efforts, assuming the fetal position and moaning has not made any noticeable impact on my delayed onset muscle soreness.

I'd really like to do Jason tomorrow but I still can barely walk down stairs. Maybe by the evening classes I'll be recovered enough.

yeah, my legs hurt. bad.

my legs haven't felt like this since the 400m walking lunges. Still hurt.
Had to go to the old meds the last two nites.

Guys. Seriously. As Lance says, step it up. Easy for me to say, right? Did you see my tiny front-squat bar? Still, 41 days left until the games. Get your rest on now, whether you plan to compete or not. Everyone who signed up is gonna need us to train right next to them and get them all pumped up. Please know I'm kidding about taking a rest day. I'm learning that it's important to listen to your body. It only took me 34 years.

Sierra - I'm confused. Are you saying we should or shouldn't push past the pain and work out today?
Seriously, though, is it good or bad to work out while you're still very sore? I know this has come up before, but I'm too lazy to look through the archives.

I have to jump on the bitching wagon...I don't ever remember hurting this bad after an xfit wod. I feel like screaming every time I engage my quads. For those that missed it, consider yourselves extremely lucky!!!
Throw them "O's" gangsta's

likewise, my thighs are hurting pretty bad, though better than yesterday. since i only did 2 rounds of the possible 4 on saturday, i can only imagine what others are feeling. matt? you OK buddy?
gotta say that lance doing 21 front squats in a row in round #3 was pretty amazing. sheer will.

Once again "special Mike" shows up in a pic...
Mike, I believe you were all making the letter "O"... I am sure if you keep trying really hard, you will be able to do it!! Go, Mike, go!!

At the 4:00 workout Saturday, while running, I got tackled from behind by a dog and knocked to the pavement resulting in two sprained wrists, a bruised hip and road rash on the palms of my hands, but, in retrospect, I guess I was one of the lucky ones: unlike the Throw down participants I escaped with intact quads!
Was great fun to spectate during the throw-down, but also felt weird to just watch. I think I'll participate next time.

Yes. :)
If you are so sore that it interferes with your normal range of movement, then some extra rest may be in order.

That's no good at all. More details, please. From where did the dog come? Who then shot the dog? Inquiring minds want to know.
I'll take sore quads over sprained wrists any day.

Steven's O is hella gangster. Where you been fool? Are you going to rep CFO at the games or what?
Posted by: Lau at May 26, 2008 4:55 PM
Was nice to see Steven. Steven, you healthy? Shoulder rested?
Posted by: brad gilliatt at May 26, 2008 5:09 PM

Robyn,
I was too busy focusing on not dropping the double-double and beer in my one hand to notice what was going on in my other hand.
I personally like Jacques's double-O sign. Classic Jacques.
Way to look hard, JP.

I think that luxuriating, alcohol, massage, and pretty women IS getting on with the business of life...

haha, I'll rep CFO at the games as personal water boy, head cheerleader, and photographer. I've got about another month for any direct pressure on the shoulder. I've been rowing like crazy lately... so perhaps ill be coming in and rowing and now you dont need to wonder why every time you see me and im on the concept 2.
sorry... dont do the "hella" thing
Ill post a link to the pictures on the next blog.

It was a youngish unleashed dog who just thought a bunch of Cross fitters running down the street was too much fun to miss out on. I was not tempted to shoot the dog, now the owner...

I have been bed-ridden w/ rhabdo since saturday and have only now been able to make it to my computer. Apparently, the only way to achieve full recovery is to quit CFO.
See you guys tonight. -- (that's a CFO hand symbol, not a butthole, FYI)
