Athlete Spotlight: MJJ wins the Concept II Challenge at the Games!

MJJ at the Games

Final Time for the 1000m
MJJ attended the CF Games as a spectator and ended up smoking the 1000m rowing challenge that was put on by the folks from Concept II. As a result, he won a brand new rower which he is graciously loaning to CFO! We hope to add MJJ to a growing list of Team CFO competitors for the 2009 Games!
Post your props to comments!

shhhh... lets try and keep him a secret. with a year of training under his belt at CFO, MJJ will be the new dark horse for the 09 games. congrats, i cant imagine holding a 1:30 for 1000m.

It won't be fair if MJJ competes at the top of his game. We should sell him for 1 million dollars to another affiliate and then we could trick out our gym with some fancy equipment and "enhancing" drugs. We could have a site better than the Oregon training facility complete with massaging midgets, so don't bother getting too attached to $$$...I mean MJJ

that is silly fast and classy to lend to CFO!
Tam - have you ever heard of "Tripod Man"? He's a midget in SF and, well, he's very impressive.

MJJ: That is a sick 1000m row time! And you were so modest about it.

MJJ,
That was sick! I was glad to be there to witness it in person.
Keep up the strong work!

Wow, Melissa, you captured some great game faces and heat-of-the-moment shots.
As usual, I have my hideous expressions in full force. I would be disappointed if it weren't so. It's a close call between Audge, P, and me for best game face.
Then again, Daniel looks like he's about to cry in that one photo.
And no comment on what's going on with Tom in this picture.

Man, that was an inspiring performance. I'm glad to have played a part in it [by standing on the rower w/ Franklin to make sure that Mike didn't send it flying].
I'm always impressed w/ how hard MJJ pushes himself. Last week when we had that brutal deadlift/hang power clean/front squat/push jerk workout, not only did he do it in half the time of most people, but he followed it with 150 front squats and 150 shoulder presses for time. He's going to be unstoppable next year if he keeps that up.

I guess this is proof that MJJ exists...
I'm looking forward to what he does on Ranier--
I think we will be even more impressed!

Tom - you're killing me...c'mon man where are they? I expect all photos to be uploaded and photoshopped to make me look math study session worthy by the time I go to bed tonight :)
Melissa - awesome, thank you!

Howdy Folks,
I have my first gallery of photos up for your perusal. I will add more photos a bit later this week. I hope to include galleries organized by athlete, too. Daniel, I stayed up good and late to set this up just for you. :)

Thanks again to James Pyne for lending me his incredible camera.

You owe me some sleep, too. :)

Wow!! Thanks for the kudos. I’m glad I got to witness the CFO team doing the damn thang! A couple of highlights that got my attention (there where many but here’s a few)
Franklins fist pump and yell when he heard his team was #1
Nicole’s motivation talks in the form of peer pressure
Mike yelling himself horse and his absolutely perfect C&J form rep 1-30
Tami toying with the dead lift weight in between her burpees
Candance giving her judge the look of death after every C&J lock out
Daniel and Brandon killing their heats but always being in the way of the “real” stars and their paparazzi
Conner starting his thruster/pull up round so fast, that for a second there all the people around me thought he was going to do a sub 1 minute Fran
Lance and Sierra, after two hard days of competition doing a hill repeats as their finisher!?

Thanks MJJ - it will be sad to see you go...
Wish List for the $$$ we get for MJJ:
- masseur named Sven
- a couple of more "girl" bars
- pink and purple bumper plates
- A GHD machine for everyone
- Lance as full-time chef
- Cabana Boy and a Cabana
- monogrammed towels
- a mural of the CF Games on the side wall
- a bigger pink calculator
- a bunk room so that we never have to leave
Thank you!

I had no doubt you'd win that thing - it was really cool having you there to represent, MJJ. Thanks for the support and the new C2! Now I have no excuse to stand around waiting for everyone to finish rowing. Damn.

MJJ you are the real deal!
Don't sweat it CFO we are not the only Oakland team that kicks ass but gets overlooked for the "glamorous" city teams. Just ask some old school Madden Raider or A's players!

Tom, Melissa, Brad & Scott...thanks for the pictures.

1-freakin-30 pace for 1000 meters? who is this guy? hope to meet you one of these days, mjj.
in addition to a larger calculator, we need BLACK PENS and BIG WRITING on the white board. anyone else spend as much time as me walking up there to see what we're supposed to do next? maybe a guide dog...

MJJ is an F'in monster. We are going to have a sick stable of athletes for the 2009 Games.
Posted by: Brandon at July 8, 2008 4:00 PM
And photos keep rolling in...this time from Tami's camera (I think Nicole and P were staff photographers for this batch of photos as well).

I love that the very last picture is of Omahottie! Great photos, guys.

What is the 1000m Challenge?
Posted by: Earl at July 9, 2008 5:27 PM
MJJ - I curse your name. I trained to win that damn rower for Diablo CrossFit. It's mine damn you!
I was at the other end of the line from you and rowed a 3:04.1. When I finished, I smoked the guys around me and everyone cheered!
Unfortunately, you, at the other end, rowed an out-of-your-mind 3:02.?!!? Grrrrrrrrrrr!
Congratulations. I humbly admit defeat. The crew at DCF is disappointed in me, but you and I will row again another day, my man.
Enjoy your f-ng new rower.

Craig,
You're cracking me up over here. Good show with the 3:04.1, though.
There's always next year...
