CFO Music Playlist

product-black-classic.jpg

So because the iTunes playlists haven't exactly been flowing (although thanks goes to Brandon for putting together the few playlists we now use on a near-daily basis), we're going to make it even easier on you.

All you need to do is tell us two songs you'd like to hear while you're working out. You tell us, and we'll buy them from iTunes and arrange the songs as part of a playlist.

So go ahead now, post to comments two songs (limit of two songs per person) you want to be part of the ideal CFO workout playlist. Be sure to include title of song and artist.

The deadline for entries is this Friday 7/18/08.

Comments

"Since U been Gone" - Kelly Clarkson

"Poor some Sugar on Me" - Def Leppard

Posted by: Brandon at July 14, 2008 9:16 PM

Yeah, Sierra! You totally made that workout look effortless. Our little gazelle! No whining either, Lau, so THERE!

Posted by: Robyn at July 14, 2008 9:16 PM

Gee, thanks for the fine suggestions, Brandon.

Posted by: Mike Minium at July 14, 2008 9:21 PM

Yeah, Sam. Thats my girl. I'm so proud of you!!To think before crossfit you were 300 pounds and had greasy hair. Way to go. Only 30 pounds to go. Just kidding, you can grate dolce gorgonzola on your 12 pack.

My 3 songs:
Lupe Fiasco - Dump it Down
Linkin Park - Bleed it Out
The Polyphonic spree - Together We're Heavy

Posted by: lance at July 14, 2008 9:47 PM

"Lucifer" by who other than my boyfriend, the jigga man....you may also know him as Jay-Z!!!!
"Shake ya body" (ditto but this time my boyfriend collaborates with R.Kelly)
oh let's try and not let this get out to B, she doesn't know about Jay and I yet.

Posted by: Journey at July 14, 2008 9:50 PM

Led Zeppelin - Ramble On
Modest Mouse - Doin' the Cockroach

I like that Kelly Clarkson song, I know I'm not supposed to but I'm just a teeny bopper like that.

This is a really great idea, thanks Mike!

Posted by: sierra at July 14, 2008 9:58 PM

Did you lose all the great songs I gave you already? I can give you another dumping.

Nice job on the run, Sierra (you did ok too, Brandon, I guess). I was bummed that my time was only 6 seconds faster than my time from 5 FREAKING MONTHS AGO. What the hell?

Posted by: Brad Greenlee at July 14, 2008 10:04 PM

You may want to consider something besides the iTunes Store for your purchases. I know that the iTunes Store offers some of its catalog unencumbered by digital rights management (DRM), but I don't think all of their songs are free of that rather sordid technology. Frequent iTunes Store users may have some input here as iTunes may be completely DRM free at this point. If not, I recommend something like Amazon.com for music downloads. Their files are straight-up MP3s. Anything will play them. You can move them to another computer, or switch to another software player, if you like. No restrictions, activations, or any other hassles. I also think some of their tracks are cheaper than iTunes

Brandon, your selections are so good they bring me to tears. The only thing that could make me happier would be more Journey tunes. No, not our Journey. I mean Journey, the highly suspect 70s and 80s soft rock band. Listening to Journey while exercising has been shown to lower naturally occurring testosterone and HGH levels in the blood stream.

My song requests:

Unsung by Helmet
Electric Worry by Clutch

I made a video from the CF Games consisting just of CFO athletes. I must say after watching it, as well as watching athletes from other affiliates, as well as videos that get posted on the main site from other affiliates, I'm so proud to be a member of CFO! The ridiculously high standards that Mike holds all of us to is apparent when we go to competitions like this.
When Mike announced changing to chest-to-bar pullup standard I hated it b/c comparing my times to those of others would suffer. But after doing them a few more times I realize how great these are for getting me in the best shape possible and furthering my pursuit to be as freakish an athlete as possible! I also realized what an amazing group of people we have at CFO in regards to work ethic, comradery, and just all around geniunely good people. In an attempt to not make a crude remark I'll say this as scientifically as possible. When I think about how awesome everyone at CFO is, and how badass we are as a group, I get an increased flow of blood to the corpus cavernosum... and I call my doctor if it lasts for more than 4 hours.

Anyway here is the video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmivhaJgPKU

The quality is significantly better if you click "watch in high quality" interesting how that works.

Thanks again Mike for being the Captain of such an awesome team!!

I heard somthing mentioned about satellite radio... I vote for that, Maybe if others vote the same way our collaborative two songs each will add up to a trial month of (sat radio) and an ever changing playlist which could be salvation from one playlist being used over and over.

Posted by: Loren at July 14, 2008 10:09 PM

Mike -

This is super cool!

1. Suspicious Minds - the re-mix version by the Fine Young Cannibals

2. Kashmir - Led Zepplin

Back-up - (because I'm certain many other CFO'ers will select the exact same two songs)

3. Boheimian Rhapsody - Queen

I think BR would be fun listening to while trying to pump out an extra round in Cindy.....

Johnny Cash, Spencer Davis, Prince, UB40, The Who, White Stripes....come on people, please pick from them.

Piece of my Heart - Janis Joplin

Someone, please pick that song!

Elvis Costello - Alison,

Mr. Elvis Presley - Kentucky Rain keep falling, In the Ghetto

Anything by the Clash! Simon & Garfunkel, we can all have a good cry together.

I have to stop.

Thanks Mike.

> I get an increased flow of blood to the corpus cavernosum...

I want several tracks of Nabil reciting some of his greatest posts.

Very cool video, Nabil.

Posted by: TomC at July 14, 2008 10:24 PM

I forgot to mention. Bonus points to the first lady that can identify the first song on the video. And by bonus points I mean math lessons.

Sorry Brad Gilliat, regardless of how much time, and "energy", you spent the other night trying to convince me that you are not only a lady, but the perfect lady for me, you don't count.

Posted by: Nabil at July 14, 2008 10:27 PM

sierra, you looked great on the runs today. way to work. howdy lance. where you at?

Posted by: Joe P at July 14, 2008 10:28 PM

Great clip Nabil,
Congrats on having the blood flow you need...
and scientifically suggesting it of course

Posted by: Loren at July 14, 2008 10:41 PM

Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins

Holding Out for a Hero - Bonnie Tyler

Posted by: Nabil at July 14, 2008 10:45 PM

I just had a cage match in my living room between Ralph Macchio and Kevin Bacon. Ralph won by KO in the 3rd round. I would like to change my 2nd selection to:

You're the Best - Joe Esposito

Thanks.

Posted by: Nabil at July 14, 2008 10:54 PM

Great video, Nabil. I like how you sped it up to make it look like Connor was doing more than one pullup every minute.

Posted by: Brad Greenlee at July 14, 2008 10:58 PM

Nabil, that's really good. Glad I get to work out with all you guys. I predict that next year everyone will wear support hose.

Posted by: Joe P at July 14, 2008 11:57 PM

Nabil, great video. My guess is "Gladiator" for the opening - let me know if I won anything.

Still working on the songs - but I am leaning toward 80's punk...

Posted by: Robyn at July 15, 2008 12:08 AM

Rancid - Time bomb, Roots Radicals

Posted by: Allen at July 15, 2008 12:27 AM

Workout Tip #1:

When needing a spot on the benchpress, it's best to ask someone who did not just finish a metcon workout. Not good to ask a strong man dripping with sweat, unless you like a big drop of man sweat in your eye.

(Wyatt - I no longer feel bad for dropping that bomb while we were doing burpees about five months ago. I honestly didn't know you were behind me. I say we're even.)

Posted by: brad gilliatt at July 15, 2008 5:59 AM

I had made a account and uploaded the music onto my music player, and if you don't want to upload your own music, you can search on other users playlists and take any songs you want! It works for piczo, myspace, facebook, bebo etc at www.hypster.com

What a way to start off the morning. Great video Nabil. Staying inspired for July 2009.

Sierra and Connie good job on the WOD yesterday. Smoked it!

Posted by: Candace Hamilton at July 15, 2008 8:40 AM

Brad - I thought we were just tight like that. Nabil told me you liked that sort of thing.
Really though, I feel bad, even if it was also hilarious.

Posted by: wyatt at July 15, 2008 8:44 AM

Wyatt and Brad, that's really a special somethin' you two have going on. A relationship like that is really special - don't let it slip away.

Posted by: sierra at July 15, 2008 8:52 AM

Ramallah "Drink the Kool-aid"
Madball "Infiltrate the system"
108 " Angel strike Man"
100 Demons "Non-believer"
Darkbuster "Stand and Deliver"

Just a few possibilities dont know if everyone would like this type of music

Posted by: Vince at July 15, 2008 9:08 AM

... and Brandon too. Good job on the WOD.

Posted by: Candace Hamilton at July 15, 2008 9:20 AM

Nabil - Nice job on the video!! It definitely captured the experience and has made me proud to be a member of CFO...My co-workers watched it and think we're crazy...then again, most of these people think exercise is taking the elevator downstairs to the cafe and getting refills of Pepsi...no need to describe their physiques given this information :)

In regards to the song, I believe it is from the "Terminator".

Watch out 2009!! :)

Posted by: Audra at July 15, 2008 9:34 AM

Looks like Audra won the partial differential equation study session.

Posted by: TomC at July 15, 2008 10:22 AM

Nabil - Although the video of Kallista's valiant C&J performance seemed to be a tear jerker for many, I must say that you did an even better job of manipulating my feelings through effective use of music and slo-mo, plus of course, partial nudity. I did not exactly cry, but I did feel emotion.

Seriously, it is absolutely inspiring to watch the video, and also inspiring to see the performances of my fellow CFO'ers live, in person, swiftly running through the mean streets of Oakland and working their asses off within the somewhat battered walls of CFO itself.

[Wow, that sounds pretty "rah, rah", doesn't it? Next I'll be recommending marching band music for the play list.]

Posted by: Sherrill at July 15, 2008 11:00 AM

I just made a cd with 70 min of rockin' workout tunes. Included are:

Rancid, the Clash, Fugazi, Green Day, Beastie Boys, Cake, Kaiser Chiefs, Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, Nothing Painted Blue, the Muffs, Killing Joke, Nirvana, Ministry, Archers of Loaf, Sleeper, Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine, James, and the Frank and Walters.

I'll bring it by CFO soon...

Posted by: Allen at July 15, 2008 11:01 AM

And no I didn't put "smells like teen spirit" on it.

Posted by: Allen at July 15, 2008 11:07 AM

Allen! Archers of Loaf??? Oh, to be 20 again! Tell me you have Web in Front on that playlist and you'll be my hero forever! Nothing Painted Blue - never thought I'd be listening to Franklin Bruno at Crossfit. How about some Sebadoh to round it out? That would be such a beautiful thing.

Posted by: sierra at July 15, 2008 11:19 AM

Curses! Terminator was my second guess - ah well - always a bridesmaid....

Stigmata - Ministry
Kiss Off - Violent Femmes

Posted by: Robyn at July 15, 2008 11:37 AM

Ah, Sebadoh. Magnet's Coil would be a decent workout tune.

Is Waiting Room on there, Allen? That was going to be my Fugazi pick.

Posted by: james p at July 15, 2008 11:38 AM

Sierra,

I never guessed anyone else at CFO would be into those two...Sebadoh got left off this one but I could put them on the next one, if i get inspired enough to make another one.

Yes, it is "Web in Front" - probably the best 2:05 of indie rawk ever made. If you can guess the NPB song you will officially be my indie rock hero.

Posted by: Allen at July 15, 2008 11:41 AM

Waiting room - check. Absolutely brilliant song, and they are from DC which is my hometown. Used to see GUFAZI stickers a lot when I was in high school/college there.

Merchandise - also included.

Posted by: Allen at July 15, 2008 11:45 AM

Allen - Hmmm... is it Weak? Had to take a shot at being someone's indie rock hero, particularly since the last album I asked for was for my bday a year ago, and it was Mariah Carey. I was once a proud riot grrl and knew every Sebadoh song by heart. Then my feet started to hurt from standing too long at shows and all of a sudden I realized I'd rather hear NPR than indie rock. Sad but true. Allen, I'm so totally looking forward to your playlists! Keep 'em coming!

Posted by: sierrapi2000 at July 15, 2008 11:59 AM

Allen, since you were in DC did you like Slant 6, Autoclave & Tsunami? I'll stop now. No use living in the musical past, time for me to move on, I guess.

Posted by: sierra at July 15, 2008 12:02 PM

Nope, it is called "missed the point."
mariah carey?!!?!?!?!?!?!??!?
that's not sad, that's complete and utter tragedy.
I'm so sorry...

I never got that into slant 6/tsunami/autoclave, although I did play them on my college radio show occasionally...mainly to see what all the hype was about.

Posted by: Allen at July 15, 2008 12:06 PM

Hey, everyone loves a good pop song, right? no? okay. Will I redeem myself if I request some Unwound?

Posted by: sierra at July 15, 2008 12:17 PM

I don't know any Unwound...maybe you should make your own mix to share. I haven't kept up with music much the last few years so I'm a bit out of date, and would love to hear some new stuff. I just downloaded a couple interpol albums though and I'm digging them...

Posted by: Allen at July 15, 2008 12:27 PM

If I can throw in a couple songs they would be:

"Ambitionz Az a Ridah” by Tupac from All Eyez on Me- I would like hear this right when I’m stepping up to the bar getting those last few breaths in before 3,2,1…

“Down with sickness” by Disturbed from The Sickness- This should only be played when the pain comes. When you have pushed your body in to the red and you still have more to do. Last 500 of a row, last set of thrusters, or burpess or whatever happens to be your pain of choice for the day.

brand new cadillac -- the clash
makes no sense at all -- husker du

allen/sierra, checked out web in front. sounds like a bootleg cassette tape of the cure, with flimsy x-fit/chiropractic tie-in regarding "spine".

robyn, i'll try to pull out more 70's and early 80's punk.

Posted by: Joe P at July 15, 2008 1:21 PM

Joe, I have to admit - I think you hit the nail on the head with the chiro/xfit/bootleg cassette references...

Posted by: sierra at July 15, 2008 1:28 PM

Motley Crue- Live Wire
Kasabain - L.S.F.
Eagles of Death Metal - I Only Want You
Fu Manchu - Evil Eye

Posted by: Vanessa at July 15, 2008 1:41 PM

Vee & Vince - You guys are hardcore. That's all there is to it. I should do some work now.

Posted by: sierra at July 15, 2008 2:00 PM

That's an awesome video, Nabil. Thanks for sharing. Don't be surprised if that video ends up being one of our posts in the next day or so!

Posted by: Mike Minium at July 15, 2008 2:12 PM

Actually Mike, I vote for sports radio. Can I do that? An hour of Jim Rome or JT or Dan Patrick......

Posted by: brad gilliatt at July 15, 2008 2:40 PM

Funny you should mention that, Brad. I'm looking at XM radio players right this minute (thanks for reminding me about that, Loren).

Posted by: Mike Minium at July 15, 2008 2:44 PM

first, Nabil, that video was awesome. You must have gone to a Crossfit Media Seminar over the weekend or something.

second, Joe P - ALL indie rock sounds like a bootleg Cure tape. Just like all good wine tastes like the inside of an oak barrel. re the spine reference, I didn't write the lyrics, but I think that is a great line - "Stuck a pin in your backbone...All I ever wanted was to be your spine!"

And I can tell you it sounds great turned up loud, and computer speakers don't do it justice.

Posted by: Allen at July 15, 2008 2:58 PM

> Fu Manchu - Evil Eye

Yes! Long live the Fu.

Posted by: sierra at July 15, 2008 7:35 PM

Vince,

every time I have put on metal core, thrash metal or death metal in the gym people's eye roll back in their heads, begin banging their heads against the closest hard object and/or begin praying to satan against their will. I am into it but most cant handle it.

Posted by: Lau at July 15, 2008 8:38 PM
