Brandy and Candy looking stunning in our new CFO tees

The new CFO t-shirts are here!

(And a big thanks to Vee for coming up with the design!)

The cost for these t-shirts is $20, and if you placed an order for one, we have yours. For everyone else who missed out on this first production run, I have a feeling there will be another run in the future.

And don't forget CF Gamers, we're holding a meeting tomorrow night at 6:30pm at CFO. Don't miss it!

TomC-
Bringing your 35mm SLR?? Seriously??!! Who still shoots film? Are you trying to be artsy, hip, pure, "true to the game", too cool to use a digital SLR? Thats like those people that ride single speed bikes b/c they are so "hip" or so hard core they don't want a bike with all those gears and thus mechanical advantages (please Lau, no comment from you.. I know I got owned in the worst way by you on your single speed bike going straight uphill, but that's beside the point, this is about making myself feel better by making fun of Tom) Really Tom, what are you going to tell me next, you're also bringing your Kodak Disc Camera?

Show up to the CrossFit Games w/ a 35mm SLR and you are going to get lambasted by the likes of Tony Budding and company. He clearly states in this video that if your toy camera doesn't shoot 5 frames per second then you should leave it at home with your energy efficient automobile known as a bicycle. Seriously, showing up in Aromas with that camera would be like bringing Brad Gilliat's lady friend, Muffin Top, or whatever the lady who lives in the tree is called. Dude, seriously, no wonder you haven't gone sub 3 minutes on Fran yet, lose that clanky box of garbage you call a camera. 1982 called, they want their camera back, so they can use it as toilet paper!

That picture is AMAZING!
The caption should read
"Derek Zoolander poses with Marion Jones"
(A really tan Zoolander, and Marion Jones after she had reconstructive oral surgery to fix her teeth)

wow Nabil. did someone beat you with a 35mm SLR when you were a kid?

I've recently dug up my old Nikon FG SLR to sell it, and it's worth like $2 now, which sucks. stupid superior technology.

Posted by: Jonathan at July 2, 2008 8:25 AM

Those t-shirts are rad.

Posted by: sierra at July 2, 2008 9:10 AM

That picture is awesome. Truly awesome.

> Bringing your 35mm SLR?? Seriously??!!

No joke.

> Who still shoots film?

I do, although not too much. In fact, I take very few pictures because I don't like developing film.

> Are you trying to be artsy, hip, pure, "true to the game", too cool to use a digital SLR?

No, but digital SLRs are a lot of dinero. Add this to the fact that I primarily want to take pictures of people doing CrossFit and the wisdom of dropping $1K on a camera comes into question. I'd actually love a digital SLR as I hate developing film. Wanna buy one for me?

> Show up to the CrossFit Games w/ a 35mm SLR and you are going to get lambasted by the likes of Tony Budding and company.

That's okay. I will mention to Tony and Gregg that I am a communist and they will forget all about my camera.

> He clearly states in this video that if your toy camera doesn't shoot 5 frames per second then you should leave it at home

Yeah, a dSLR that does 5 frames/sec does not come cheap. Tony also spends $1200 on a single lens for his camera. My camera will do about 1 frame per 5 seconds provided I can manually advance the film and turn the focus ring quickly enough. Will you be bringing your Canon 40D to the games? I'll take pictures of you during the events if you do. :)

> then you should leave it at home with your energy efficient automobile known as a bicycle.

I'll have you know that my bicycle should be called an electromagnetic female attractor. The ladies love a man who cannot swing by to pick them up and drive them anywhere. Men who are not afraid to wear bicycle helmets also make the women swoon.

You need to put my potential purchase of a dSLR in context here. I did not own a cell phone until precisely one year ago (when I was 30). If I had not been given the damn thing, I still would not have one. I bought my first MP3 player two months ago. No, it wasn't an iPod. My guitar amplifier is powered by vacuum tubes - the latest and greatest technology from the 1940s. I own a yellow rubber ducky that squeaks when you squeeze it. Claro?

CF Games Tip from the August 2008 issue of Eating Well:

A small 2006 study (partially funded by the dairy industry) found that chocolate milk might help tired athlete refuel as well or better than popular sports drinks. In the study, nine cyclists rode until exhaustion, rested for four hours, then biked again. During the rest period, they drank either low-fat chocolate milk, Gatorade (a fluid/electrolyte-replacement drink) or Endurox (a carbohydrate-replacement drink). The cyclists who refueled with chocolate milk were able to bike about 50 percent longer during the second bout of exercise that those who drank Endurox and about as long as those who drank Gatorade. Upshot: You don’t need a “sports drink” to refuel after a workout. Regular or chocolate milk—both of which contain a mix of carbohydrate and protein—may work just a well. Before or during a workout, however, stick with Gatorade or a similar carb/electrolyte drink.

Damn Brandon I just got a new poster size pic for my stalker wall, I just need to cut out the other guy :)

Dang Tamara, you better check yourself...those sound like fightin' words...Michelle, don't hurt her, however I must agree :) you go girl - Keep that s**t on lockdown :)!!!

I am uncomfortable with this picture and am flagging it for moderation.

I am also saving it as my desktop background. One other thing Brandon probably doesn't know how to do with computers.

Nabil, the vitriol towards our fellow Crossfitter TomC (aka the unabomber)!!!

Where is that coming from? Perhaps there's some old archival SLR film shots of your "screen test" from the valley? Vintage mid-90's? Bad memories perhaps?

Posted by: brad gilliatt at July 2, 2008 11:45 AM

Tom C -

I have a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-H5 camera. Am told it's pretty sweet, but I really don't know boo about cameras.

It does take really good low-light zoomed-in through windows pics.

Want to borrow it for the games?

Posted by: brad gilliatt at July 2, 2008 11:52 AM

Um. Excuse Ms. Holmes... are you calling me and my large muscles, masculine!?! A clear case of the pot calling the kettle black, and to that I will respond - "I'm black (with large muscles), and I'm proud!"

After a second glance...

I do admit that the picture is lightly reminiscent of a transvestite photo shoot taking place on the set of a gym. Yea, that's not good. Mike, what's with your damn camera. First the blue face. Now the inflated arms. This is bullsh*t!

Posted by: Candace at July 2, 2008 12:29 PM

I swear to goodness, Brandon's eyes are following me!

Posted by: brad gilliatt at July 2, 2008 12:38 PM

You guys are all hilarious.

Hey Mike - something to show your seniors class...one of the trainers at CrossFit South Brooklyn turns 69 today:

> Mike, what's with your damn camera?

Nothing reproduces accurate colors or well muscled arms like film. :)

> Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-H5 camera

I'm not much of a fan of little digicams. That's one reason I don't own one. Thank you for offering, however. I am actually holding out for a dSLR, but they're still too pricey for me. I will proudly use my film SLR with its absurdly fast and sharp 50mm prime lens. Despite the inconveniences of film, my camera took good pictures 10 years ago and continues to do so.

> Nabil, the vitriol towards our fellow Crossfitter TomC (aka the unabomber)!!! Where is that coming from?

Nabil heard about my blistering Fran PR last night and he's getting worried. Pretty soon, he will only be 2X faster than me on Fran and then it's all downhill from there. It only took me about 30 minutes to pull myself off the ground after that workout. He's also upset that I can sautee collard greens better than he can.

Posted by: TomC at July 2, 2008 12:44 PM

TomC - I've got a Nikon D70s DSLR with a couple of lenses you can borrow for the games if you promise to take lots of totally rad shots and don't sweat all over it too much.

Posted by: james p at July 2, 2008 3:25 PM

At least we'll have Brad Greenlee to take some good pictures at the games. Tom, your film camera that you've been blubbering about and wasting precious comment space is clearly as useless to us as Brandon at the CF Games if HSPU's come up in the workout.

Leave it at home or you could find yourself as a Grassy Knoll victim at the Games.

> TomC - I've got a Nikon D70s DSLR with a couple of lenses you can borrow

Deal!

Posted by: TomC at July 2, 2008 4:37 PM

Nabil - I'm only going to be there on Saturday, but I'll definitely be taking lots of pictures. Between you, Brandon, and Daniel, I think I could make some serious $$ selling them to realjock.com.

Posted by: Brad Greenlee at July 2, 2008 4:49 PM

damnit....someone call me and do my signup for me for the games...ill be working in an hour and wont be able to jump online...

PRAY FOR FRAN people...you know we'll grab the affilliate cup it if she comes up...

Posted by: p. at July 2, 2008 4:50 PM

P.

You picked a hell of a time to start contributing to the US's GDP.

Posted by: Brandon at July 2, 2008 5:06 PM

Hey James P,

I sent you an email, but I wasn't quite sure if I had the address correct. If you are serious about the D70, I would take good care of it and fill its storage card with all kinds of CF Games pictures. I included my email as part of the linked signature to this post.

Posted by: TomC at July 2, 2008 6:06 PM

Most interesting thing about the workouts for the games: the pull-up standard is chest (clavicle or lower) to the bar. That effectively eliminates the butterfly kip.

Posted by: Brad Greenlee at July 2, 2008 6:40 PM

Tom C - Just replied to your email, but posting here in case, like, gmail screws up sending mail to itself... or something... anyway, I'll bring it by the gym tomorrow (7pm) if you're going to be around.

Go forth and capture CFO in all it's glory.

I just cleared a 4G card for ya... that's like 27 rolls of 36exp film. Enjoy.

Posted by: james p at July 2, 2008 6:44 PM

P. - looks like your prayers have been answered, three times over.

For you non-competitors who are interested but not sufficiently obsessed to download the PDF, here's an abstract:

Saturday, two workouts and a hill run.

Workout A will be three rounds for time of 21- 15- and 9 reps of:
 Thrusters: 95 lbs for males, 65 lbs for females
 Pull-ups
There will be a 12-minute time limit on the workout.

Workout B will be five rounds for time of:
 5 Deadlifts: 275 lbs for males, 185 lbs for females.
 10 Burpees
There will be a 12-minute time limit on the workout.

The Hill Run: The hill run is a steep, off-trail run approximately 750 meters in length over rough terrain. There will be a 20-minute time limit on the hill run.

After all competitors have finished, they'll announce a workout for Sunday, which will be run in heats based on combined time in Saturday's events.

The final heat (top 20 competitors) for each division (men & women) will have a staggered starting protocol. The athlete with the lowest combined time from the three Saturday events will
start first. The next 19 athletes will start at the precise time difference by which they follow the front-runner.

Their time for the event will be their finish time minus their start time, but the staggered start allows for the overall winner of the Games to be determined instantly.

Tony B. killed the butterfly pull up!

He must not know how to do them.

Hater.

Posted by: Lau at July 2, 2008 7:02 PM

Have you ever wondered if there was more to life, other than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?

Posted by: Lau at July 2, 2008 7:27 PM

I think that Fran may be the least important workout as far as the overall score goes. Our heavy hitters are all pretty close on their max Fran times. Sacrificing a few seconds on Fran will probably mean less when compared to the other workouts which will probably have a greater time spread between athletes.

Posted by: TomC at July 2, 2008 7:33 PM

I know there's been a nice head of steam building for butterfly kips. They're rad. But I'm pretty psyched about the strict standards. Our athletes will be up to the challenge!

Posted by: Mike Minium at July 2, 2008 9:03 PM

i totally missed the order. when can i get one?

Posted by: brian c at July 2, 2008 9:47 PM

Actually, I was too quick to write off the butterfly kip. Check out the video on the main site of Dutch doing it. Definitely doable.
