reposting...
Actually, I was too quick to write off the butterfly kip. Check out the video on the main site of Dutch doing it. Definitely doable.
Ok People everyone will need to run 750m on a ranch hill, which will feel like 1600m on flat ground. Just a note to those of you with tender ankles you will want to tape up or put a brace on! I would hate to see someone twist or sprain an ankle on the trail run.
Good luck to all, I will do my best to make sure the CFO tent has the very best love, food, shade etc.
Franklin
Brandon how does that hill compare to running Marin? Does the grade feel the same?
Tamara,
I think that the grade is relatively similar, but the CF Games hill is really uneven and has piss-poor footing, making it a real pain in the ass. The key is cocked ankles, high knees and a "F" everyone else attitude.
What order is CFO requesting for the three events?
Also, given the steepness of the hill, it may be advantageous to wear trail running shoes with THICK heels as they seem to decrease the apparent strain on your calves when going up a steep hill.
Looking at the workouts I just realized something. That big yoked steriod NFL guy John Welbourn is F*CKED!!!
Proof that gun totting Republicans, Bud Selig, and Jesus are all against steriod use!
Alright, Team CFO, I won't be there to cheer you on this weekend, but know my thoughts will be with you every step of the way. I'll even wear the t-shirt on Saturday in your honor. Kick ass in Aromas!
To help get really fired up I find there's nothing better than a really good show tune: C'est Moi.
An excerpt:
A knight of the Table Round should be invincible,
Succeed where a less fantastic man would fail.
Climb a wall no one else can climb,
Cleave a dragon in record time,
Swim a moat in a coat of heavy iron mail.
No matter the pain, he ought to be unwinceable,
Impossible deeds should be his daily fare.
But where in the world
Is there in the world
A man so *extraordinaire*?
C'est moi! C'est moi, I'm forced to admit.
'Tis I, I humbly reply.
That mortal who
These marvels can do,
C'est moi, c'est moi, 'tis I.
I've never lost
In battle or game;
I'm simply the best by far.
When swords are crossed
'Tis always the same:
One blow and au revoir!
C'est moi! C'est moi! So adm'rably fit!
A French Prometheus unbound.
And here I stand, with valour untold,
Exeption'ly brave, amazingly bold,
To serve at the Table Round!
Dear Fellow Oakland Crossfitters,
Trample the weak and hurdle the dead. You are ALL beasts. For the record, which would be destroyed anyway, I don't care what kind of kinky weirdness happens down there, I've got you covered: foreign object withdrawal, antibiotics, tatoo removal, Plan B, you know the like. Anyway, I really want you just to have FUN...but winning the affiliate cup is a real possibility! Good luck and KICK SOME ASS!
Love, Amy
WHOO HOO! Im in the east coast waging my own battles on the bike, but damn the CF Olympics looks rad. As my race director says " no matter how much you like your competitors, when the gun goes off you gotta be ready to kick em in the teeth!"
Remember never give up! at some point your worst inner demon will rear its head and you will want to give into the the suffering- If years of competition have taught me nothing else it is this: that moment, when a sliver of weakness tries to creep in, is the most important moment. It is is the moment when you make your greatest gains, mentally and physically, and the more you push the more you gain. So kick that demon in the teeth and Go Get some Oak-town xfit!
Incredible! I like the strict coaching - bring it. All we have to do is show who we are. We are CFO! We call each other on reps. We compete against each other everyday. Now, the only question is... how the hell am I supposed to concentrate on work today?
i hope to make it down sunday to cheer you on and witness cfo dominance.
the competitors might wish to check this out when developing their strategy for saturday.

good luck to all.
Just a bit of inspiration...A new speed record was set on the nose of El Capitan yesterday. Hans lives in Lafayette/Yosemite and Yuji is from Japan.
American Hans Florine (44) and his Japanese partner Yuji Hirayama (39) succeeded today in breaking the El Capitan speed climbing record in Yosemite National Park, CA, USA. They duo broke the previous record, set by the Huber brothers from Germany in October 2007, by a margin of 2 minutes. Florine and Hirayama scaled the 3000+ foot granite monolith in a time of 2 hours, 43 minutes.
Hey, Bill, the show tune you quoted has the rather amusing line:
> One blow and au revoir!
That's rather suggestive.
> Looking at the workouts I just realized something. That big yoked steroid NFL guy John Welbourn is F*CKED!!!
How do you figure? He might not like that run, but those 275 lb deadlifts are like the warmup to his warmup sets. I'm not sure if he's got a lot of pullups, but 95 lb thrusters probably won't be too difficult for him either.
Also, in the interest of fairness, Welbourn claims he was clean and testing for drugs is far from perfect. I know I will get excoriated for suggesting that he's not on the juice, but it is possible. He only outweighs me by 120 lbs and his shoulder press exceeds my back squat.
I just think of all the exercises in the first day only the 275#DL and the thrusters will be easy for him. Burpees can't be too easy when you weight that much and I'm hoping the new pullup standard will eff him up real good.
I think Brandon will have an awesome shot at this format b/c of the total volume of Saturday and I'm sure a RIDICULOUSLY insane workout on Sunday. He's the only one I know that can do multiple WOD's in a day and hit each one with crazy intensity!
I was hoping for a hopper on Sunday b/c then there would be a chance that double unders wouldn't show up, but since they have designed the final WOD and are not drawing it randomly I'm positive those damn things will show up. I'm predicting a huge mashup of exercises to cover all bases and all athlete's strengths and expose possible weaknesses. I say double unders, rowing, and perhaps some relatively heavy full squat cleans, among probably a dozen or so other exercises!
What do you guys think?
I think nabil is right on target, as usual...
the big guy is F-ed. Brandon and Daniel both have a real shot at glory, as do many other from CFO, and sunday will be brutal.
I'm picking Tamara and Candace to win #1 and #2 for the women, not necessarily in that order. And a few others from CFO have a real shot to place high as well.
Kick some aromASS!
Good luck Nabil, Brandon, Patrick, Daniel, Tamara, Candace, Loren, Connor, Lance, Journey, Sierra, Laura, Audra, Tom, Mike and Connie!
I know you all will do great! I look forward to Tom's slideshow!
Kim
MJJ & I did the DL + burpees workout today and, as is often the case, it was a lot harder than I thought it would be. My quads were definitely burning when I started that second round of DLs. My only advice is to not try to go so fast on the DLs that you lose your form. It's a lot of weight and I wouldn't be surprised if there are a good number of back injuries from people trying to rush through it. MJJ has the time to beat so far w/ 4:16. I was just over 7 min.
Best of Luck to everyone competing, even though I am confident that Luck will have nothing to do with the "O's" kick-ass competitors!
Manwell and I will be there volunteering to do whatever they ask of us- I am thinking water-girl and towel-boy but we'll see. If I do get called upon to be "water-girl" then I will be sure and spike the competition's drinks with lots of sugar and anti-zoney additives! See you all there! Kick Ass and Take Names for Shit talkin later!
Once Nabil starts his sun salutation routine, all bets are off. I predict a massive disruption of opponent morale as soon as he gets going.
A bottle of fine wine or 18yo scotch to any CFO athelete who places in any event!

Nice, Brad!
I am such a totally proud CFO geek that I could not wait to wear my t-shirt and sported it at Berkeley Bowl this morning. I realize I don't rate to wear it at all, but every group needs a wannabe ;)
All of you participants have cahones mejores for stepping up and we are ALL with you (body, mind & spirit) - make us proud(er)!
Lydia, the proper term for Manwell is "Cabana Boy" - ask Patrick for tips...
Too bad they don't have a "couples" cagegory - CFO would run away w that prize: Lance/Sierra, Candace/Daniel, Mike/Connie, Nabil/Brandon, etc...
GET SOME!
Tom, I have the D-80 charged & ready to go. We can take lot's of pics of each other, save the Polaroid for Nabil :)

This comment has SOOOO much potential!
So very much potential!!
> This comment has SOOOO much potential!
I don't understand. :)
I just re-read my comment...let the games begin!
I think I'm gonna barf. Is anyone else nervous, or am I just girly enough to be freaked out? What am I thinking? It's CFO, you guys are so beastly - there's no room for nerves.
Edgar! We felt the loss this morning. It just isn't the same, man. Just isn't the same.
CFO - GET SOME! I'm sure everyone will represent. I'll be in Lost Angeles for the weekend, but in Aromas in spirit.
Good luck CFO!
Take no prisoners!
My IP address has been permanantly blocked from posting on the CF main site (seriously it has).. and after recieving written reprimand (probably long over due) about my postings on the CFO site, I think I'll just sit back and enjoy the spectating
Nabil - say it ain't so. Where do you get IP addresses anyway? Can't you just go get another one?
No fine wine or scotch for you. But, a 1.75L of Malibu has your name on it.
Where can we get "Free Nabil" t-shirts?
hope i'm not too late to wish everyone the best... looking forward to seeing some amazing results. lance, kick ass, brother...
