Escape from the Rock

Franklin immediately following the completion of his 1.5-mile swim in from Alcatraz
Major props to Franklin for finishing his 1.5-mile swim in from Alcatraz this past Sunday, August 25.
His swim got started around 7:30am, bright and early, and he finished the swim a little over 55 minutes later. That's a lot of open water swimming!
Here are the official results for Franklin's age group (swim-only category; there were also others competing in the race as one leg of their triathlon):
Escape from the Rock Results, Men 35-39
Give it up to Franklin in comments.
***Schedule Changes***
We're consolidating our weekly 8:30am and 9:30am classes starting Tuesday, September 2. We'll be running a single 9:00am class instead during weekdays.
Also, over Labor Day weekend, we'll be holding 9am and 10am classes only on Saturday 8/30 and Monday 9/1. There will be no 4pm classes on either of those days (we're running a weekend schedule on Monday, since it's a holiday, minus the 4pm class).

Nice work, Franklin. After swimming 200m in a nice warm pool I've generally had enough. You need to stop by the 7 PM class some day. I challenge you to a Helen competition.

Anyone who is interested in tendonitis-related issues, please see my 5-volume essay posted on yesterday's CFO blog.
Franklin, congratulations. I would probably drown or freeze (or both) if I tried that...

Nice one, Franklin! I've always wanted to swim from Alcatraz. Maybe next year.

Is that Franklin, or the Incredible Hulk? Awesome, fellow 6 AM dude.

Great job Franklin! I don't swim because I don't like getting my hair wet.

That's really Awesome, Franklin! Quite an achievement!
After yesterday's workout from hell, my hands are wrecked. I am going to order some of those hand grips that Manwell uses and want to know if anyone else would like to put it an order. The link is http://lynxpt.com/, so check it out and get back to me and I'll place the order today.
Special Thanks to Manwell and Jacques for running the final mile with me last night- after they finished their workout, so I wouldn't have to run in the darkness of West Oakland by myself (yes, it was dark by the time I finished, I was dead last)!

Good work, Franklin. Scott did that swim some years ago, and I remember feeling quite anxious as I saw many little brightly-capped heads being swept slowly but inexorably westward as the tide turned. Glad you made it safely out. It's great to have you at the 6am workout these days!

Lydia get your "hoods" str8, it was North Oakland you were running in. I would love some of the hand pads, I'm trying to hang on to the one feminine part of my body ( other than the obvious parts!). Candace you might want to look into a pair...just looking out "friend".

Lydia - count me in for a pair...probably cheaper in the long run than using all of Lau's tape.

Congrats to Franklin! And to Lydia for completing Murph...
T- how badly did you destroy my FS weights??

> Awesome, fellow 6 AM dude.
I'm still amazed that people can work out at such an unpleasant hour. It's difficult to wake up at 6, let alone exercise at that time. I declare my opposition to early mornings.

For those of you who like to keep up with fitness blogs Ev R. has a new one:

It was fun to do Murph at CFO. You guys have a great thing going on, I'll have to stop by for some of the tougher workouts. Motivating.

Everyone did a great job on Murph!!! Journey was amazing :) My goal is to try and beat Brandon on his second mile with his 20lb vest. Brandon hit me up on the email so I can beat you in golf and feel better about myself.
Sorry Robyn, I had to make sure you know your place...below me and above Candace (#155) ;)

Franklin,
Excellent work. First, Cullen Jones, now you. If we could just teach Connor to swim, we might be on to something.
On another front, how is the progress on the avacore coming? This is likely our key to world domination. And I'm not talking about speaking with a british accent while doing leg presses and leg curls.

mike,
Please censor brandon's comment. He forgot Crossfit is a competitive sport and we don't want the lurkers from other gyms to find out about the CoreControl.

awesome work, Franklin. Swimming's no joke for the big guys.

dude that avacore is amazing! I love it how just sticking your hand in the device cools the core temp! Best part about the whole thing is that during 6-12 reps of any exercise core temp doesn't get ANYWHERE near overheating levels... and increased muscle temperature is actually one of several key factors for increasing muscle contractability. Silly Brit!

Hongera BIL!!! That's just awesome. Wewe unaogelea kama samaki. I will join you next year. YA RIGHT!!
