TG/HDL Ratio

omegarxzone.jpg

A few people have recently reported the results of their blood lipid panel.

We thought it would be a good idea to share with you the ratio Dr. Sears (of the Zone fame) suggests to use to gauge your blood insulin level.

You simply take your triglyceride count and divide it by your HDL (the good cholesterol) count. In shorthand, it's TG/HDL. This is from page 120 of his Omega Rx Zone book, pictured above.

The lower the number, the better. Sears assigns the following states of well-being (or lack thereof) to various ratio values.

4: Diseased
3: Poor
2: Good
1: Ideal

The good news is that the CFOers who've reported results from their recent panels have had ratios less than one!

I guess CF plus a solid diet does pay off.

>2 code 3 returns, one unresponsive, one converted from svt with adenosine, 2 moto deaths and the city is basicly going to hell.

Lau-
Adenosine for a little svt? Jesus Christ whats the world coming to these days?! You paramedic types love push meds just like the therapists over diagnose A.D.D. and prescribe meds just so they can get a kick back from the makers of Ritalin and Adderall.

I get SVT everytime I do a WOD at CFO, you don't see me reaching for a needle, i just go outside, walk across the street, take a few deep breaths, watch some guys park their Mercedes and walk briskly into the massage parlor, and then I carefully cross the street again back to CFO while being concious of the ever present 1990 Chevy Lumina speeding out of control b/c it's being driven by a 14 year old on meth fresh from a bank robbery, and as if the amphetamines weren't enough to affect his driving, 8 of his gun weilding homies are screaming at him to run over that shirtless guy in the street, and the fact that the car is filled with smoke from a recently exploded dye pack makes crossing the street with an elevated heart rate a treacherous, but none the less, feasible task, without the help of adenosine.

Possibly, the best place I’ve found for information about controlling cholesterol levels is http://www.cholesterolscore.com

The site focuses on the therapeutic use of niacin to improve all the blood/lipid numbers.
