Tomorrow's WOD, courtesy of CrossFit

Over the past several months, we've been extremely heartened to see the fitness level of so many of our members increase. Along the way, though, we've too often neglected the genius, and lack of bias, of the main-site WOD programming, which in the past has been the quickest path to the broad-based level of fitness to which we aspire.

To be honest, we've done this because it's been so exciting to see you all strut your stuff and show us what you're made of. But everyone has blind spots and weaknesses. And it's only through tackling the main-site WODs that you get a clear sense of what you're made of, and what you aren't.

As such, we're recommitting to give the main-site WODs their just due.

Beginning Monday, everyone will be doing the main-site WOD as written in group classes, with the following exceptions:

* The Fundamentals workout will remain in place, posted right alongside the WOD every day.
* Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (only!) will still be reserved for you to train the strength lifts and Olympic lifts.
* Main-site rest days will still be relatively free-form and the perfect opportunity for you to scratch any fitness-related itch you may have.
* Substitutions and alternatives will be provided if you're incapable of performing any of the moves of the workout, due to injury or physical limitation. The time domain of the WOD will remain intact, however.

In addition, we'll be piloting an open-gym hour in late 2008 or early 2009, so stay tuned.

Post your thoughts to comments.

MJJ,

Doing work outs as RX'd? You are F...Ked!

I posted twice...for emphasis.

very wise coach mikey! when created by others, I've noticed A LOT of bias in the WODs....not in oakland of course, because I haven't been around, but other places...

hrmmm....

Don't worry MJJ, it'll be okay!

Good job MJJ, nothing like being the reason for the rules! You know what they say, we wouldn't have to have rules if everyone just did what they were supposed to, now look at us! Next thing you know, we'll all be wearing uniforms, doing group warm-ups and banning PSR entirely...

If PSR is disallowed I don't know what I will do with myself. The Bay Area climate is too warm for me. I'm afraid I would suffer heat stroke if forced to wear my shirt during metcon workouts.

> scratch any fitness-related itch you may have

For truly persistent fitness-related itching, you may want to investigate one of the many over-the-counter products that promise to alleviate those problems.

Patrick, I will be gone next week as I visit the wilds of Pennsylvania, but let me be the first to welcome you back to Oakland.

Need a favor -

Does anyone have a pnuematic drill and air compressor I can borrow for a large project tomorrow?

thanks in advance.

I'm a little scared about having to stick to the WODs...which means it's probably just what I need to do. "To every birth its blood."

For the record: I am against any rule that requires that CFO athletes keep on their shirts. Especially the guys.

But I am psyched at the propsect of uniforms. Obviously, red Tami socks must be a part of the uniform.

Viva virtual shoveling and inverted burpees!

Brad,

I would suggest Daniel, but I think he is out of town until Sunday. A second option is giving this guy a call.

On WOD -

The WOD provides a specific discipline and structure and order. Without order, we have chaos, which breeds complacency, malfeasance, and arrogance.

Order is a curious creature because most would say it is hard and there are buffers against it....outside influences. However, order leads to discipline, which when properly applied can create a momentum which can encapsulate the goodness of effort.

This effort and discipline and order is what makes CFO great. So I applaud Mike and Nicole in getting back to what CF is all about....which to me is....

a formula for a sustaining force for peace and strength of mind and body.

Any aspiring musicians looking to share some studio space in Oakland?

What is CrossFit? ala crossfit website

CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.

Brad, have you been sampling some of the products you promote this afternoon?

Steven, this is from the same page you quoted above.

The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.

i omit certain things for a reason, but thanks for pointing it out Tom.

I put on five pounds almost immediately after writing that post.

Steven-
If I bring you Betty's oatmeal raisin cookies, will you do the WOD?
