Kilimanjaro Anyone?

Kilimanjaro.jpg
Kilimanjaro with its three volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira, is an inactive stratovolcano in north-eastern Tanzania rising 4,600 m (15,100 ft) from its base, and is additionally the highest peak in Africa at 5,895 meters (19,340 ft), providing a dramatic view of the surrounding plains.

This is an initial query to see if any of you CrossFitters are interested in doing a Kilimanjaro climb in December 2009. A year will give all those interested in going a chance to save the money and mentally (and physically) prepare for the climb! The plan is to go for about 10 days, spending a week on the mountain and a few days post-climb on safari at Masai Mara game park (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masai_Mara).

Post if you're interested to comments.

I think it would be good to finally but Crossfit survival strength to the test. Will a muscle up save you from a hungry lion? Can a body weight overhead squat help catch food?

I'm in if someone will give me the $2-3k it will cost for a trip like that!

Tamara just use the money you get when you win the Crossfit Games.

GOT AHI TUNA??? Check out www.fuel2go.blogspot.com
It's yummy...

Oh I so want to do that.

Oh, man. I'd love to...maybe in about 16 years, when my girls are old enough to go with me.

Thought you guys might get a kick out of seeing how far someone who started at CFO unable to do ONE full ring row/pull-up etc etc has progressed after 2 years of CF. It's pretty amazing:

Epic adventure? I'm interested.

Complete as many rounds as possible in 168 hours:

1 summit of Kilimanjaro
21 burpees

From a website called, appropriately, Climb Mount Kilimanjaro:

The main trekking seasons on Kilimanjaro correspond with the mountain’s two dry seasons (an imprecise term, the weather being occasionally inclement during these periods too) namely January to mid-March and June to October. You can read more about the rainy seasons by visiting our Kilimanjaro weather page. Of course you can trek up Kilimanjaro in the rainy season but not only is there a much higher chance of trekking in the rain, the summits of Kibo and Mawenzi are likely to be wreathed in thick cloud too. Indeed, several agencies even suspend their operations in November and December, deciding that any trek up Kilimanjaro is foolhardy at this time and the rewards for the trekkers considerably less. Curiously, however, Christmas and New Year, when the weather is far from perfect, are actually the most popular times for climbing Kilimanjaro.

For all you advanced CFO jump ropers I found some good motivation for you. The USA woman’s record for TRIPLE unders is 486, and the men’s record is ‘only’ 626 consecutive triple unders.

pshhh... that's it?

Lance -

a 4 and a 5 for tomorrow.

ty

125 inverted burpees tomorrow? I'm getting nauseous just thinking about it. Ugh.

This does not bode well:

36:35 as rx'd. Jesus Mary that was terrible!
did invertee on wet grass next to tennis court, burpees on tennis court and pull ups on monkey bars, what a show for guests at Lake Buena Vista in Orlando!
it think people thought they were witnessing death by exercise

For those that are not familiar with OPT, he won the CrossFit Games in 2007 and came in 12th in 2008.

Masai Mara is in Kenya, while Kilimanjaro is in Tanzania. So the most logical place to do a safari afterwards is in Northern Tanzania, which has several parks to visit such as Ngorongoro, Serengeti, Tarangire, Lake Manyara.
