Slow day for post topics?
Thanks for nothing Mikey.
even if i lose, I still got to use your fly ass shoes! Thanks for the warm welcome.
Oh, I have a feeling that I will have several posts throughout the day to celebrate Mr. Minium. I think it is important to call attention to his talents not only as a coach and and an athlete, but also as a singer and student of opera. I got to hear him working on sections of Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia recently at the gym and I must say that I was impressed. Although I would be tempted to classify him as a baritone, he has an expansive vocal range. His technique and breath control are hard to fault and his Italian pronunciation was quite convincing. We have a true Renaissance Man right here in Oakland.
I never did get that kiss.
I go away for a few days and this is what I come back to.
Thanks for posting that wonderful photo, Nicole. I look stoned. In other words, I look like Lau normally does in his pictures.
Those are two very well executed side-hugs.
We love you Mike! Really:)
Too bad you can't see me "side hugging" Mikes leg.
Too bad you can't see me "side hugging" Mikes leg.
Ah Ha! So this is what happens when I'm not around! You all sit around, get high, and then try to take advantage of my man -you guys are dead meat!
I love Mini. It seems that the less he talks to me (he's definitely a man of few words), the more I adore him. Maybe it's because every other word out of Lance's mouth is Mikey, Mike, Mikey.
SPRINTING TONIGHT @ PIEDMONT TRACK -6 PM, UNLESS IT'S RAINING...TALK OF 40'S...BIGGIE?
T IS SO BUSTED!
i'm so jealous of lau. i suspect he did get that kiss and his denial was posted to deflect the wrath of the lovely cave connie.
First off, T, Mini has explained that you actually have to DO the workouts to get in shape, right? Kind of like running. If you want to be a better runner you have to...Oh, never mind.
Also, this photo doesn't have the same effect on me that a photo of three CFO women hugging might generally have on the guys. Can't explain it, but my boat isn't floated...
Lastly, Mini is the best alpha dog our affiliate could ask for. I am scared of him, and that's good.
I find it best to express my feelings for Mike in haiku:
See the Mini donk
Burpees in plaid lulu shorts
Bulbous is the donk?
My work is done here.
Lau's balls fall like rain;
Mike's soft hands slow the descent.
Brandon wears snug briefs.
I must say that Mike is a Fabulous trainer And always good for at least one awkward silence per day. I often find myself re-evaluating my status as an up and coming comedian when I am around him, since he rarely laughs at any of my "hysterical" jokes, but I recently decided it can't be me, it must be him. So, Mikey, Thanks for all you do for me, I will pay tribute to you when I become famous, you can count on it!
The use of sophisticated poetry to communicate just adds to the sense of high CULTure at CFO.
Oh yeah, ALL PRAISE TO OUR FAITHFUL LEADER! He clearly adheres to the idea of multiple wives...
Lydia - I know those awkward silences! I thought I was the only one! I'm even more familiar with the "What in the hell are you talking about??" face. That's always fun. That said, I love when Mike coaches. I'm always looking for someone to tell me my form sucks, and he knows that and forces me to follow through with a lift before I knock my own performance. I appreciate that. Plus, he's a really sweet guy.
Chest up! Neutral spine!
The familiar cue is barked
A clap of thunder.
alright, i thought i was just sensative but clearly the silence is just mike. i do enjoy being chastised for letting family and work get in the way of crossfit howvever. seriously, i'm very thankful to have found this fitness oasis. many thanks mr. minium
I hate to derail from the lovefest, but I was wondering if someone would be available to bring me to cfo this evening for the pain that is Barbara. My truck is expensively out of commission for a few days. I live near Lake Merritt on the Parkway side. Any class time works.
Mad Props for Mike! It was his work with a cyclist friend of mine that brought me to CFO in the first place- And I am so psyched to have CFO as part of my off season regimen. Somehow I never noticed those awkward silences- but then again I always have inane babble at the ready :). Seriously tho- I wish i could have Mini yelling in my ear at my races- that would be rad.
Speaking of which, racing has started for those of you who asked for a quick up date read on- this weekend I went to merced http://www.cyclingnews.com/road.php?id=road/2009/mar09/merco09/default to race. My two team mates and I were quite out numbered (3to1 by one team) but as i told them (and myself)- this was not a race to win, but one to suffer in! and suffer we did- it was two days and over 100 miles of glorious brutality. Next up will be San Dimas (3/20-22) which is the dress rehearsal for the true season opener: Redlands (3/26-29). I hope to be pretty fit by the latter race, and have more exciting updates.
For now, the hard work of turning strength into speed continues. Im not fast now, but i am definitely stronger than i was last year- thanks in large part to my work at CFO and Mini's strength plan! Thanks!!!
No coach/trainer/person has ever pushed me during workouts harder than Mike has. Mike is also responsible for convincing me to do things I'm dead-set on NOT DOING... ie. any workout that requires lifting more than 95lbs. overhead, as well as drinking 4 shots of Jagermeister within the first 5 minutes of me arriving to Mallards.
Thanks for constantly making me re-think my limits.
Seriously though, how can anyone not appreciate Mini? His Crossfit obsession benefits us all.
Mike had me at "stay on those heels."
CFO owners can thank Mike for my $189/month as he recruited me right out of the fine establishment that is Maverick's Gym in Emeryville. I was running my own affiliate gym out of there called "Crossfit Solo" (CFS). I was a big fish in a small pond. My own pond, in fact. Sort of like peeing in the shower. It was going well but growing memberships (beyond 1) was becoming a challenge so I decided, like the king of a small, unproductive island nation, to annex CFS to CFO.
While I still feel that I am better than everyone in every way imaginable, other than CF performance, I'm glad Mike brought me in.
He came to OAK from a town down south,
With an entire bag of Doritos in his mouth.
Almost always has a phone glued in his hand,
Except when steering his guzzler across the land.
I can’t imagine him having a foe,
Hey, where did his hot flip-flops go?
He sports a hat and plaid without fail,
Is great at paying attention to detail.
We definitely owe a lot to this guy,
So I sure do hope that we all try
To show our one and only Mikey
Just how much we love his (tiny) hiney.
Someday I hope to be as good a trainer as Mike. Everyone listens and works harder when he is in the gym!
Mikey, can I call you Mikey? CFO just wouldn't be CFO if not for you. You're very generous with your knowledge, and I really appreciate how much you put into coaching and planning events and wiping Lance's blood off the pull-up bars and stuff like that. Also, I'm glad to know it's not just me that hears the silence at 6 AM.
I've only know you for a short time Mike but I really appreciate your work ethic and the positive vibes you bring to the gym. Thanks for the training tips!
*******BAD WEATHER=NO SPRINTS TODAY!!!!!!******
