I'd like to recommend Diana Schwarzbein, MD's book, The Schwarzbein Principle, as an excellent resource to help broaden your understanding of the hormonal effect of food. This is her first book in a series and while it was published 10 years ago its content continues to be very valuable and relevant. Schwarzbein explains how certain foods can cause hormonal imbalances and lead to what she calls "accelerated aging" and a damaged metabolism.  She breaks it down into a very simple and easy-to-read way, making it a little more digestible than her other books.

Above are two short segments from a complete interview on The Wellness Hour.

Check out the entire interview on her website.

this book is just for woman, right?

Brad,

Her book is not for women only.  Applies to everyone.

Mike, don't you think women have the most to gain from this book?

People do challenges for a variety of reasons.

It appears 30 days is at the low end of how long it takes to form a habit.

Bad Brad: no info on how this applies to irascible males.

I don't think that women have more to gain by eliminating excessive carbohydrates from their diet.

I also don't think women have more to gain by directing their training away from excessive amounts of cardio.

I also don't think women have more to gain by understanding the hormonal effects of food, and how they affect levels of growth hormone and testosterone.

So, Mike, what you are saying is that this might just not be for women?

I am going to start work on a book called The Campitelli Principle. Details are a little sketchy at the moment, but it will probably involve an exploration into posting comments on websites and how that affects developing tremendous work capacities over broad time and modal domains.

Don't feed the trolls, Mike. :)

Wow, great stuff Tamara.  Congratulations on qualifying.

I was in San Ramon yesterday, almost stopped by, if I'd known you were competing, I definitely would have.....

her name means "black leg" in German.

She has a point: using weights/resistance training in order to building muscle mass is a good strategy.  Thhe more muscle you have, the more calories you burn.
