Fight Gone Bad Fundraiser for West Oakland Students!

Just a few of the kids who’ve been helped by Boost! West Oakland

One of the best things about being involved with the CrossFit community is the ability get looped into opportunities to give back.  This is one of those opportunities.

We’ve decided to team up with fellow CF gym United Barbell (right across the Bay Bridge in SOMA) and raise funds for Boost! West Oakland.  In years past, we’ve raised funds for causes that are more national in scope; this year we’re going local.

We’ll be doing Fight Gone Bad (a favorite workout for fundraising in years past) on Saturday November 2nd (we’ll be doing this in lieu of group classes).  Our goal is to raise $3,000, and we want to meet this goal!  To that end, we’re asking each participant to raise a minimum of $50.

What you need to do:

1.  Go here and register yourself.
2.  Start raising funds (or make a donation yourself).
3.  Have a blast doing “Fight Gone Bad” on Saturday, November 2.

More about Boost! West Oakland:

Boost! West Oakland (formerly known as Lafayette School Mentoring Project) is a no-cost tutoring and mentoring program for K-5 students enrolled at Lafayette Elementary School in West Oakland. Since its inception in 1997, the program has served more than 1800 students.

Diverse, experienced tutors, who are carefully selected and matched to students’ needs, provide weekly one-on-one tutoring in reading and math. Boost’s innovative approach is consistent, well-organized, and offers students continuous one-on-one support over a long period of time.At Boost!, the students want to be in the program. They look forward to their sessions once a week, throughout the school year, and many students participate for five or six consecutive years and for more time each week. For many of the children this is the only time that they have such a high level of dedicated, positive attention from an adult, and the effect can be life-changing.The mission of Boost! is to empower West Oakland youth with the skills and confidence needed to become positive contributors to society.

Boost! West Oakland fosters healthy attitudes toward learning and strengthens students’ academic performance and self-esteem through individualized One-on-One Tutoring and Mentoring, Fieldtrips, and Family Events. For more information on Boost! West Oakland, click here.
