Did you know that there’s an entire sport built around the kettlebell? Much like the barbell sports of Olympic Weightlifting and Powerlifting, you compete against others in a few key movements (the jerk, the snatch, and clean-and-jerk, in the case of Kettlebell Sport). Unlike the barbell sports, where you’re testing a 1-rep max, in Kettlebell Sport, you’re tested against the clock for max reps, making it a great challenge of strength endurance.
You can read more about Kettlebell Sport here.
For an example of these athletes in action, check out this video of the Russian Championships back in June.
We’re excited to announce that we’re hosting a clinic on Kettlebell Sport at our Emeryville location, from 12pm to 3pm, on Saturday October 6th. The cost of the clinic is $40 for CFO members, $50 for those who aren’t a member of CFO.
Come join us for an afternoon of learning all about Kettlebell Sport, or Girevoy Sport. Learn tips on how to tighten up your technique, what competition judges will be expecting of you, and how to succeed in a competition setting. This is also a great way to get more out of your CF training and add some variety to the kettlebell training we do.
John Wild Buckley, founder of the Orange Kettlebell Club, along with coach Jonathan Heuer, will be teaching and demonstrating the Jerk, Snatch, and Long Cycle (clean & jerk) during a 3-hour clinic aimed at giving you a better understanding of the sport and how to reach your goals quicker. After the instruction there will be a group training session, giving all in attendance the chance to do a trial competition set to get a taste of the awesomeness and to see where you currently stand.
Give this new sport a try! We are looking forward to seeing you there, and maybe even at the California Open in February in Costa Mesa!
