Most of you know Lance as that awesome coach over at Uptown (with occasional coaching appearances at Emeryville on the weekends). But did you know that he’s also throwing his hat into the competitive powerlifting ring? If his recent squat of 425 x 3 is any indication, he’s going to do well in his debut, which happens this Saturday in Grass Valley.
Lance is competing in the Sierra Nevada Cup on Saturday. Powerlifting meets are a test of your 1-rep max in the squat, bench press, and deadlift, in that order. You get three–and only three–attempts at a 1-rep max in each of those lifts. Judges are there to validate that the lifts are legal (breaking parallel in the squat, pausing in the bench, etc.).
Lance will be heading up to the meet on Friday, so if you see him around the gym before then, be sure to wish him well. In the meantime, let’s wish him well in comments on this blog or on our FB page.
And if you happen to be in Grass Valley this Saturday, the meet is taking place at IronWorks Athletic Club (map).
Get some, Lance!
