Lance nailing his 501.5-lb squat–a new PR!
As we wrote about last week, Lance competed in his first-ever powerlifting meet this past Saturday. Lance competed in the Sierra Nevada Cup, a US Powerlifting Association meet held in Grass Valley. Powerlifting meets are a test of your 1-rep max squat, bench press, and deadlift, in that order. You get three–and only three–attempts to max out.
It was a very long day. We got there at 8:30am, with the first lifts happening at 10am, and left a little after 6pm. Lance ended up going 6 of 9 overall. He hit 2 of 3 squat attempts, 1 of 3 bench press attempts, and then finished up strong going 3 for 3 in his deadlift attempts.
His final numbers were as follows:
Squat: 501.5 lbs (227.5 kg)
Bench Press: 286 lbs (130 kg)
Deadlift: 518 lbs (235 kg)
Total: 1,306 lbs (592.5 kg)
His squat and deadlift were both PRs.
Lance put in a ton of work leading up to the meet. And he’s already planning on doing another one in the very near future (tentatively scheduled for December). I’m expecting big PRs in his next meet, since he had plenty left in the tank for deadlift and his bench press was really strong (he just needs some refinement in technique).
Keep up the strong work, Lance! It’s very inspirational!
