Tough Day 1; On to Day 2!
Some days, you just have a tough day at the office, so to speak. Today was one of those days for Steve. We kind of expected the first two workouts to be rough ones, since Steve’s shoulders would be smoked after the 75 overhead squats in Nancy, and he was looking at 25 handstand push-ups in the second workout. There is a big silver lining in all of this, though:
Silver Lining #1:
Steve showed great composure under a ton of pressure. Two years ago, he was in a similar situation in the final stage of the Games, and had–for lack of a better term–a meltdown on handstand push-ups. Today, with shoulders and a midline that were beyond fatigued, Steve clawed his way through as many handstand push-ups as he could in the time he was given. He played with different positions, tried different rep schemes, he did whatever he could to muster up more efficient technique throughout the workout. But it just wasn’t meant to be.
Silver Lining #2:
The Day 2 workouts are much more in Steve’s wheelhouse. He does really well with all of the movements that will be coming up. You can see the Day 2 workouts here.
Silver Lining #3:
He has nothing to lose and everything to gain. We’re gunning for the top 12 so that he can get into Thursday’s workouts (the top 12 advance to Thursday). He’s gonna leave everything out there. I want him to attack the workouts with a (nearly) reckless abandon (but still with a plan, of course).

Let’s lift Steve up and provide him some motivation in comments and on FB! He always likes to do things the hard way, so here we go!
Go Steve! We’re al cheering for you!

Steve — this is what you’ve been training so hard for all this time. Go out and get some for yourself and enjoy! 🙂 🙂 You are incredible!
Way to get it DONE today! Amazing! Can’t wait to see you dominate C&J. Did you really have shoulder surgery? More like a bionic implant….
Steve, just saw that you came out in 9th place today! So excited for you! Keep it going!
Wow! Well done sir! I am so impressed, I’m going to make up some t-shirts “I workout with Steve!”
