Like CrossFit the training program, which is elegant and efficient in its simplicity, so too is one of the early written works of CrossFit, “World-Class Fitness in 100 Words” (pictured above; source: library.crossfit.com/…/CFJ_Trial_04_2012.pdf)
One of the oft-forgotten and oft-neglected prescriptions of “World-Class Fitness in 100 Words” is the last line, to regularly learn and play new sports.
This Sunday October 16th, thanks to Beth, one of our 6am regulars (at our Emeryville location and our Uptown location–she gets around!), we’re being hooked up with just such an opportunity to learn a new sport. Beth is a member of the DragonMax dragon boat racing club, which operates out of the Berkeley Marina. She’s arranged for a special outing for all CFO members (Emeryville, Uptown, and EGA) to learn how to paddle on a dragon boat. This is a very different experience than rowing on the C2 erg in the gym. For starters, you’ll be paddling with several others. Dragon boats, as you can see in the picture above, are large, so the more of you who show up to paddle, the merrier!
I’ll be out there, for sure, looking to expose myself to new stimuli. It’s easy to get caught up in the relatively fixed movements you encounter in the gym. Break out of the routine and get out and try something new…your fitness will thank you for it! I hope you all will join Beth and me! Please RSVP to either email@example.com or to Beth directly.
