Teaming up for the 2017 Open!

The 2017 Open is just around the corner…the first workout is released on Thursday February 23rd!  That means most of us will be running through 17.1 on Saturday February 25th (more information to come on the Saturday schedule for the Open as we get closer to that date).  Can’t wait to get the 2017 Open season kicked off!

This year, we’re changing it up and participating as teams of four (two men and two women), who will be vying for bragging rights and various prizes over the course of the five weeks of the Open.

As in years past, it doesn’t matter a lick if you and your teammates have never done the Open, or have to do the workouts scaled or modified.  The Open (except for a few folks, and you know who you are) is all about participation and working out with your friends from the Emeryville/Uptown/EGA community.  It’s about getting pushed like you never have before, and coming away better for it.  Each year we see a number of firsts (first pull-up, first muscle-up, first time deadlifting 225# or 155#, etc.) and a number of PRs.  We expect no different this year.

The 4-person teams will be competing against one another, and on various levels.  Each week, we’ll be recognizing the best team who goes Rx’d, the best team who goes Scaled (not Rx’d), the best Masters team, and we’ll be doing some recognition around some weekly Wildcard awards (could be spirit, could be biggest improvement, could be the most impressive “first” that happened–sky’s the limit for the Wildcard awards).  We’ll also be giving out some grand prizes at the end of the Open for various teams.  This is gonna be a blast!

Here’s what you need to do to participate in the Open:

1. Go to the CrossFit Games website and register for the Open.  It will be the best $20 you spend this year.  Make sure you register as part of your affiliate (your home gym, either CrossFit Oakland, CrossFit Oakland Uptown, or CrossFit EGA).

2. Start recruiting others to be on your team.  It doesn’t matter if you all are brand new, if the team is mixed-level team, or if you all are a bunch of badasses.  Once you are part of a team, email us the name of your team and the names of the folks on the team.

3. Take a deep breath and remember, this is supposed to be fun!  The PRs will happen if you let them–just focus on the process.

If you have any questions about the Open at all, or if you are looking to get put on a team, send us an email.  Let’s get the Open started already!
